Margalot
Hi, My Wonderful Hubby has been busy all weekend long! We had the materials delivered this Friday, and at the crack of dawn on Saturday he started to build our WIR His own design all in his head! He still has bits to do as you can see i.e the roof needs finishing and the wire to go on the top section, there are boards to go round the bottom and along the top at the front. When all thats done I will put aubiose on the floor and sort out their feeders etc, but they are in! and seem quite happy! So so proud of him! He has named it Featherly Hills as for 2 chickens it seems very extravagent! , but we are to take ownership of more hens soon, juts trying to decide which breed as I would love some Buff Orps, but know where I can get some cream legbars immediately I will post more pictures as soon as its finished! atsw
That looks great, if not amazing, given it was all built from scratch. Interesting that you (or OH), opted to put the mesh on the outside of the frame, rather than on the inside as is the case on the pre-formed panels that many people construct their runs from. Do you think it makes a difference, or is just just aesthetic? Andrew
ISCA
Looks super and just right for BOTH Buff Orpingtons and Cream Legbars I would say Nice choice of breeds, not that I am biased
Tutti Frutti
WOW that's incredible! It took us months and we've only just about finished it but I'm still fiddling around with it I love the name too Very clever Interesting that you (or OH), opted to put the mesh on the outside of the frame, rather than on the inside as is the case on the pre-formed panels that many people construct their runs from. We put ours on the outside too - we figured if a fox leant on the mesh and pushed and pushed, the staples on the inside might come away. So we stapled on the outside and then put more wood over the top (overkill?) to cover the staples! Well it made sense at the time
Plum
Mine came as panels but it is screwed rather than stapled to the inside with large flathead screws.
veggiemad
My WIR was a bought one - neither me nor DH DIY fans!! and the mesh is stapled inside, which i must say - i hate! - I have boards along the bottom to stop the aubiose coming out, but the baords are on the outside- hence a gap , betwenn mesh and boards and the aubiose gets stuck and therefore is very difficult / near impossible to get at and change around the bottom edges!! Hurrah for you putting mesh on the outside.
Margalot
That looks great, if not amazing, given it was all built from scratch. Interesting that you (or OH), opted to put the mesh on the outside of the frame, rather than on the inside as is the case on the pre-formed panels that many people construct their runs from. Do you think it makes a difference, or is just just aesthetic? Andrew Well all credit is due to my DH! I have only been supervising. As we speak he is back out there putting on the roof. Thank you for all your comments, we are really chuffed with it . I think the main reason for the wire being on the outside is that its a whole frame and the mesh came in 6 metre rolls, so he just unrolled it and stapled to the frame. We drew much inspration from all of your WIR's have been looking at the pictures for ages now. the size of the run is 3m x 3m. We (I mean he) still has lots of bits to do and then we (he) has the rest of the garden to sort out, there will be patio slabs leading up to it and much more tweaking yet! More pictures soon
