Lesley
I was placing an order for a birthday present and found this book advertised as one I 'may be interested in' - I usually ignore them but had a quick look and decided to buy it. It's brilliant - described as !A nostalgic tribute to the foods we loved' it is a hilarious resume of all those foods we bought in the seventies(and earlier) It has a 'Trolley Embarrassment Factor' rating for each one I know it's about food but I posted in NB as it's a little bit of fairly recent history and would make a great little present for those 'of a certain age' (the history about the Ploughmans Lunch was quite illuminating )
Sheilaz
Thank you Lesley, I love topics about good gift ideas. That's helped me with a couple of presents, and I'll make sure I get to read it too. Thanks, just my cup of tea!
The Dogmother
Does it feature Battenburg cake then? My dad's favourite
debbier
Oooh, I love Battenburg cake, but only the really good stuff. Elizabeth's cake shop in Leicester used to do a fab one. Funny I like it, really, as I can't stand marzipan in chocs or on wedding cake.

Lesley
Oooh! - I'd forgotten those! my Gran used to buy them for us when we visited. There is a site dedicated to 'bring back showboats' Sadly, they're not in the book.

Lesley
It's kept me smiling all day - I keep picking it up and reading the next one. The Smash one particularly - it reminds me of my son who (when aged around 6/7) insisted the ad was "For mash get smashed"
poachedegg
Thanks for that - have just bought it, I am going to put it away for my Christmas Stocking!

Charlottechicken
Just had a peek inside courtesy of Amazon My elderly neighbours have at least one Fray Bentos tinned pie a week, there's always a couple of tins in the fortnightly recycling

I would like to point out that my brother started it with us. I expect a fair few other families were singing that version too! Ooooh Kunzel cakes.
