Lewis
Yesterday (Thurs) was Grandads funeral - it went well, really nice personal service etc, so had all that to deal with... We came back here, let the chickens + ducks out to FR and were sitting in the house. Gerald came running up to the patio doors shouting + flapping. Went outside and the fox was dragging Jemima up the garden He saw us and ran off, she waddled into the WIR. I picked her up + bought her inside. Had a bite on her neck and puncture on her back ... syringed them out with saline and they weren't too bad, put her in a carrier in the warm and dark. She was ok after 6 hours, just quiet and in shock. Then she died this morning Gerald has been quiet too, but still looking round the garden for her. RIP Jemima... Lewis
They were 'surprise ducks' - friends bought me them for my 18th They wanted to go + get him another girlfriend but said its not that easy He's fine with just the chickens at the moment, if a bit quiet. They were never apart from each other so will see what he's like. Will keep them all in for a bit, and 'cos of the rubbish weather, but they have been free-ranging pretty much all day for the whole of summer - would rather them be happy running around, than cooped up. Lewis
Thanks Gerald is fine - he's been wandering around the garden but still really quietly. Was sitting in the tub trug and kept tilting his head to the side looking really confused!

donald
So Sorry to hear about Jemima I lost the whole lot of ducks( bar 1) in their house. I reckon I had just missed the fox as they were still warm. I had them for 4 years and they free ranged all day with never a problem, I couldnt believe they got killed in their house.I was so annoyed I probably could have prevented it if only I got there a few minutes earlier. Poor Gerald am sure he will pick up if he had another lady friend to look after and keep him busy?? I am sure that will make him happy again...go on Really sorry though donald ps not sure where you are again but the arable fields have recently been harvested and I have seen a lot more Foxes around...?
