London Marathon - Sunday 22 April

Recommended Posts

I hope you don't mind if I just mention that my OH and occasional Omleteer, the gorgeous Henny Penny, will be running in the London Marathon on Sunday (22 April), in London. :shock: If you're watching on TV, or along the route, keep an eye out for athlete number 16375. That'll be her. She'll also be wearing a fairly bright blue top with her name (Wendy) and the logo of the Alzheimer's Society on it. She's raising money for the Alzheimer's Society and, if you want to sponsor her, she has a sponsorship page at:

Thanks.

We won't be able to watch the Marathon this weekend as we are going somewhere that doesn't have TV

Best of luck Henny Penny, that's a worthy cause :clap::clap:

Thanks.

Good luck with the fund raising - I cannot imagine embarking on a marathon. Amazing. 8)8)8)

We will be thinking of you!

Cheers

Dan, (Debs), Harry and Jules. :D

Edited to say that this was posted by Dan on Dan's Desktop and profile where Debs had logged herself in for some reason without telling me...

(Women)..! :roll::lol:

Thanks everyone. I'll make sure HP sees this thread.

Do you guys run for an athletics club Richard? Or train by yourselves?

Just being nosy as i am involved in athletics stuff (though not marathons!)

Good luck Henny Penny!!! :D

Helen

Helen, we mostly train by ourselves but for the last few months HP has been going to Cambridge Harriers once a week - despite their name they are based in SE London. She runs with a group of women there, and the training sessions are overseen by a proper coach. The women are of all ages and abilities. She has found it very helpful. She also goes running with colleagues once a week after work, and then does a long run at the weekend, which I usually do with her.

I should be doing the London marathon next year, so will need to think about whether to join a club or not. I get most of my training advice from HP. And the runnersworld.co.uk forum is very good for advice - just like this one.

And Dan (or was it Debs :wink: ), you never know until you try. :wink:

Thank you all soooooo much for all your kind words of support. I vowed and declared that I would never attempt this distance again since taking all day (literally) to drag myself around the course in 2004 but I just couldn't resist the opportunity to raise serious amounts of money for a very good cause.

My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 2 years ago and I'd do anything to try and raise money to support other families living with this terrible illness and hopefully find a successful treatment, if not, one day, a cure.

I may not be able to walk on Monday, but I'll try and crawl to a PC and let you know how it all went!!

:D:D:lol::D:D

Join a club Richard! Can thoroughly recommend it!!

I do track and field rather then marathon running (though, actually i mostly coach these days rather then train...) but my clubs endurance group really enjoy running together. I think it spurs them on to have each other to run with and it is good to have some proper coaching as well :)

Keep us up to date with your progress!

Very best wishes for the marathon - you are very brave!

I can only just run the two miles round the block, never mind the 26 through London! :shock:

When you are feeling tired and fed up in mile 13 + think of all the lives you will have an impact on with all the £££ you have raised! Stay positive! :D

:P Hope you have had a good run, and are recovering Henny Penny. My brother has done several marathons ... started with London for the hospice my Mum passed away in. Chances are you may become hooked on running ..... My Bro' did one .. then New York, Paris and Barcelona ..... London several times ... but this year has deferred to do the Iron Man Challenge :roll::D .

It's over! What a day! As predicted, walking is very difficult - especially as I did something to my knee at about 18 miles and had to limp the rest of the way round. But I followed the advice and focused on the money I was raising and somehow I got round. I passed Indiana Jones early on (think he may still be on the course!) but I was determined not to be beaten by the Mister Men, so I passed them in the closing stages.

I got a massage from the lovely people at the Alzheimer's Society, have had a bath since I got back and Richard is now making me dinner - and has brought me a glass of champagne. What more could a girl want?

Thanks again for all the support! I will definitely NOT be doing this ever again! :)

Well done HennyPenny........ what an achievement 8):D:D:D

I'm sure that every part of you must be aching by now, but you must be so proud of yourself to have completed it.

I think you picked the hottest London Marathon ever to run in as well :shock:

Massive congratulations.

Richard's turn next year then ???
