dancing cloud
No more for me just now, but just to say for adopting your girlies and you will love them! Watching frightened little feather-bares turn into gorgeous cheeky chooks is incredibly rewarding

crazy kc
I collected 4 lovely girls from Little Hen Rescue in Norfolk on Sunday and ended up bringing home a lovely cockerel too. They are doing another rescue on Saturday with rehoming on Sunday so I'm going to collect another 2 girls then.

Trougher
I'm getting 3 ex-batts on 18 September, but in Shropshire. I've never had chickens before, and am so excited to collect my girls! I've been reading everything I can lay my hands on (this site has been particularly useful), have everything ready, and last night went to see another lady in our area who has about 20 ex-batts along with about at least 100 chickens of different breeds - the ex-batts were easily the friendliest, gathering round us, pecking our legs, and wanting to be picked up for cuddles! I hope mine become that healthy and friendly. I may be asking some advice on this forum in the future!
scarlettohara
Just got my date 26th September Everything is ready in ex-batt wood - cleaned and disinfected, just a small lawn to lay (cheap turfs from B & Q) and the woodchip for the run

Stedic
Just spoke to Mel at Little Hen Rescue (Cambs bit) and I'm going to get 3 ex-batts on Saturday! Hurray! She asked lots of questions about my run and how covered it was etc....then pronounced it'd be great for the oven-readies...so I think its three of those for me! scarlettohara
I can't believe I'm laying them their own little lawn - it will be wrecked in a couple of days
chick wiggle
Yep, but just think of the fun they will have doing it! They will think they are in heaven
Stedic
Maybe they'll have forgotten about scratching in the grass and you can train them to neatly trim it instead? Or perhaps not.
Mercedes55
My girls don't seem to be interested in grass. When we first got them they had a little nibble of the lawn and even now if they are let out onto the lawn they will spend a few minutes picking at it. Then they head for the borders and that is where they choose to spend all of their time. I have noticed they like to mess up the edges of the lawn a bit, but for the most part they definitely prefer the borders. It will be interesting to see what the new girls prefer when we dare to let them out
Trougher
I'm getting 3 ex-batts on 18 September, but in Shropshire. hi Trougher.. where in shrops can you get ex-batts ? xx Sorry for the delay in replying, this thread seems to have moved several pages down! I am getting mine from the British Hen Welfare Trust, and collecting from Ellesmere in Shropshire, which is the nearest to where I live (Chester). I put my name down a couple of weeks ago and wasn't sure how long I would have to wait, but as it turned out, not long. Just a shame about the weather, I was hoping for some nice sun for my girls!
