Omletina Kyckling
I've finally got around to start the task of decorating my little cottage....I've started with the kitchen as it's ickle. I did all the prep work last night, masking off, wiping stuff down with sugar soap etc. and have just finished painting. I chose "Timeless" by Dulux in their kitchen and bathroom range and I'm really pleased with it. It's very very light, just off white really, rather than the richer creams I usually use but in the kitchen it works as it really brightens it up. My cupboards are all cream so it's a better contrast. I'm feeling jolly pleased with myself as I bought the stuff a few weeks ago but haven't had any oomph to actually get on and do it! Now I just have the lounge, hall, stairs, landing and spare bedroom to do..... I bought the same colour in Dulux Once as I thought if I had extra kitchen and bathroom left I could start with that in the lounge and then take over with the Once, but not sure if it's going to be too white now. My cottage faces ENE so it's not as light as it could be but I'm just not sure....hmmmm......

Snowy
Whoop! Sounds lovely! And I agree, go for the light look in your lounge - it will be great with the rich reds and golds already in there and I bet it will really brighten it up! If the worst comes to the worst, we'll have to have a painting party and all come and paint over it!
Omletina Kyckling
Oooh I didn't take a before....oops....but it was mucky creamy yellowy and rather tatty and the ceiling was the same and the gloss work was really quite yellow in places too! Here are a few of it after though.....try to picture it once I have my red little range style cooker which I ordered weeks ago but still out of stock.... Charlottechicken
The kitchen looks lovely, not little at all either (I've seen much smaller) Is that work surface pearwood by Wickes? I had that in my old kitchen and was really disappointed when they stopped doing it, as I wanted it in my new kitchen. It doesn't show dirt or scratches, and has a really faint greenish hue to it as opposed to a pine orange colour.
Guest
Oh Diane you clever thing - it looks great! See you just needed a project to brighten you up.... I am surprised you didn't have the neighbour round to lend a muscle or two! Cannot wait to see it all in person - may have to bring that little invitation closer date wise!? Chicken Licken
It's looking great - I have been meaning to give mine a fresh lick of paint all summer, but never got around to it - it really is amazing what a difference it makes isn't it. Omletina Kyckling
that kitchen looks fabby (your kitchen look HUUGE in those photos ) ........I'd cleared away all the clutter which was on the floor by the radiator, that made a big difference!! .........by the way, I had a great time at the Poultry Club with Mostin, my eggs didn't win anything (we was robbed!!!) but Mostin's young Sussex cockerel (son of Big Bad Bill) got 2nd in his class and she got a 4th place for her eggs! patsylabrador
I hope you don't mind me saying, but my parents have a small dark cottage which they painted light colours all over. It was right for the bedrooms and the kitchen but totally wrong for the front room. Because it is so dark it just looked grey and grubby. They decided on a lovely red which was very daring for them, having always been 'magnolia' people and it looks lovely. It's fresh in the summer and just so cosy in winter, especially Christmas. Another colour which I've seen in cottages that works really well is the dark green that you see in pictures of Victorian houses.I have that in the back room of my house which gets very little light and it is really nice. If your front room is bright and breezy I can imagine a light colour would look lovely, I guess it depends on the quality of the sunlight you're getting in.
