Donna C
Hi all, I've had two buff orpingtons for 7 weeks. one has thrived to point i thought she was a cockeral. other was always alot smaller but put this down to being younger. Ate, drank and loves tit bits etc.But today she was rolling over couldn't seeem to walk. Took her straight to vets who doesn't hold much hope as she isn't getting any goodness from food, really thin. Got to syringe feed her every 2 hrs. My oh has I really do hope she pulls through but need to ask the question do i have any rights to ask breeder for another chicken?????? Please help as at this rate i'm going to end up chickenless
Geoid
You could ring the breeder up and ask, you might have a comeback under the sales of goods act, but im not sure since its an animal.
Redwing
If I was a breeder I wouldnt exchange or refund after as long as seven weeks as I would have no idea in what conditions the chickens had been kept during that time or what they had been exposed to Of course its worth approaching the breeder for advice on what may be wrong with the hen and see where that leads
Mollie333
If it was a busy breeder, i doubt he/she would even remember you. So probably wouldn't give you a refund, or swap her, as she is ill, and wouldn't want to risk his/her breeding or selling flock. Good luck with her though! Chucky Mama
Sorry to hear that you girl is so poorly. I am afraid that I think 7 weeks is a little too long though to expect a refund. If you expressed any concerns with the breeder earlier then perhaps yes, if not then no. Good luck.
Blue-DiamondChick07
Where did you get your hens from exactly? Ive had problems with some hens I bought from a 'breeder' myself

MarkBevBen
Oh so sorry to hear about little Bluebell, heres hoping she'll pick up a bit. They keep us on our toes our girls don't they hey. We got our girls from Omlet and they include a 30-day guarantee. Sadly one of our girls became ill (bacterial infection) and we lost her, they were very good about it all - extremely considerate. We've decided just to have our two girls Cottie and Dottie for now though.
Mollie333
Pages Poultry? I change my mind! I've literally just come back from collecting another two Polands. I am very good friends with Susie, she would never sell a ill bird.. Did you give her a call and explain? I wouldn't think she would give you a refund or a new bird, because you had her for so long. Just give her a call So sorry to hear about her, though! Edit: Give her a call and ask for advice.
Donna C
got to say she was fantastic . She had good look at her and found feather mites, something vet missed . She was kind enough to deal with buttercup in a humane way and we brought another lovely bird. Next time i'll call her first. 1.99 spray could have stopped this. She really is great, trying to intergrate new girl now and got to get her used to going onto coop and being handled. Spent half an hour chasing her round garden, phew

She's crossed with two colours but pure orpington. She's lovely but only have to look at her and she runs away. Getting her back into run is hour long chase . But the two seem to be getting along touch wood just the odd little peck so far

Donna C
We come from solihull in w midlands. About hour trip there . How old were the babies? She was rushed off her feet when we went and the rain was pouring down so not much chance to chat.
Mollie333
I'm in Derby, 45 min trip i think! The Lab is great with the chickens. I got my first chickens when Alfie was a pup. They were about 7 weeks, off heat, tiny bantams, but unfortunatly we had to get something a bit older (POL) as a companion for Fizz, my frizzle Pekin, so got two Frizzle Polish! Result! She is always busy, mainly on week-ends. Her Brahma cockerel died of old age so she was very . He just used to toddle around the yard, as he was not fertile any more but a lovely fella. How did you find Pages Poultry then? I've got to say when i first went in December 2009, we missed the opening about 3 times.
Donna C
Know what you mean, we drove past a few times. We had ex-batts that sadly died and vet recommended orps. having looked and looked i asked a friend and she recomended susie page. Do u know anything about feather mite? When i took buttercup to susie at weekend she showed them to me on her and i was angry that vet hadn't picked up on them earlier. Susie said to use pigeon insect spry but another link on forum said it's no good. Really can't cope with loosing anymore ladies. Lost one in april, 2 in august and another at weekend
Mollie333
Never had a problem with Feather mite myself, but according to a friend, one of her girls were OK to begin with then dropped during a week, and sadly died . I know that they are tiny and hard to find, and burrow into the skin at the base of feathers, i check all of mine for lice ect, especially in the summer, or when there broody. I've been lucky and never had any sort of mites! I'm dreading if i ever get red mite though..
Donna C
i thought i had checked her but they are soooooo small . Plus she lightning on legs. Something i'm going to have to overcome if i don't want this to happen again. Susie is soo confident she just hung her upside down and had good rumage
Mollie333
Yep, these are the two Polish i collected on Sunday! viewtopic.php?f=5&t=70331 I also have brought 3 Pekins, 2 Silkie x Pekins, 2 Turkeys, 2 Silkies and 2 Polish from her. I've got to say, most of what i've brought from her aren't here anymore, through no fault of hers. You kind of get into the swing of handling chickens like that, especially when you own turkeys, they can be hard to handle unless tame!
