Mrs Webmuppet
With the sad demise of Bumble our head chook and regular egg layer , Mr W has said that Little Miss Webmuppet and I can get more chooks to replace the losses (we have gone from 6 chooks to 3 in the last year or so) but I now need the help and advice of the forumites. Do we go ahead and get 2 or 3 chooks now or so we wait until spring? If we do decide to get some more in the near future, does anyone have any spare housing we could borrow for the duration of the intros? ( we are near Ipswich, Suffolk) And any recommendations for suppliers in the Suffolk, Cambridge, North Essex area? Help! green
Now that you've got a green light, can you bear to wait until spring? I couldn't, got two chooks three weeks ago and am already looking into getting more in the spring... If I can wait that long!
daxigirl
Just think you could be all set by Christmas, intros done and everyone settled. If you wait till spring that's another 5/6 months away. Besides 3 more would help keep them warm of a nightime in their house. It's been a bit frosty lately. I've convinced me, what about you? Mrs Webmuppet
I have to say I am tempted to say yes, lets get some more sooner rather than later ( I have got 6 days off in a row in November when I could do the trickier part of the intros ) but it's the spare housing/ where to go to get more chooks question that I am stuck on. I have managed to arrange to borrow a coop (which will hopefully fit in my car ) which we will pick up on the way.

Mrs Webmuppet
We got the chooks from Landbase Poultry in Ardleigh. They don't have very many chooks left. The three we have were this years hatching but are around 8 months old. They are selling most of the remaining chooks for between £7 and £14 .............(hears stampede of Omleteer feet in direction of Ardleigh!) By the way they have an Eglu Go on display at Landbase Poultry. I had put the new chooks in the Cube run whilst Bling and co were free ranging as Mr W and I were supposed to be building a 'borrowed chook house' unfortunately somehow a vital piece of the house had got left behind and by the time we realised it was getting dark and Bling and co were desparate to go to bed. I ended up spraying everybody with anti-speck and then they all took themselves off to bed. They have an extra feeder and extra water containers in the cube run, I will let Bling, Bromley and Snowy out in the garden in a little bit. This morning we had our first egg from the newbies laid by Custard.
dancing cloud
Well done that Custard and what lovely-looking girls! Hope the integration continues smoothly. You would indeed be hearing my feet stampeding to Ardleigh, but I've had to promise the pet-sitter no increase in numbers before my hols in 3 weeks and I've put my name down for some more ex-batts any time after I get back. Just as well, as it takes only minutes to put the door on the cube run and cat-carriers in the car, and self-restraint is not one of my key characteristics !
