eBay grumble :(

Recommended Posts

My cube was picked up today - it was a sad moment in itself, but not made any nicer by the way it happened.

Normally when I sell stuff on ebay, people are nice and grateful. Not so much in this case. The people who were picking it up were the sixty-something parents of the chap who actually bought it, who obviously thought I was ripping him off by charging this much for something they thought was an utter waste of time and money. I was accused of lying about having cleaned and disinfected it (which given the two hours plus I spent last night with scrubbing brushes, poultry shield, disinfectant and buckets of hot soapy water, I was a bit miffed about). They were really off about paying me, and then that I was proposing to post a printed off copy of the instructions to them as I couldn't find mine. I did actually say at one point that I really didn't mind if they just wanted to leave it, as I could easily sell it to someone else and I wasn't desperate for the money frankly. Just really unhappy that that's how it went. I know it doesn't look immaculate, but it's not a new cube. I suggested that he had a go at it with a jetwasher or some such, but I was cleaning it with elbow grease and hot water, so it's not going to come up immaculate.

:( At least I have some ex-batts booked to cheer me up.

That's not fair, especially when you've worked hard to clean as best you can and you sold it as being used.

I had something on for sale on Ebay the other week, for collection only, clearly stated. One person bid for it, so when the auction closed and I looked at their address they were at the other end of the country :? I emailed them and asked if they were going to collect it but they said no, they would pay for the postage, but that wasn't the point, it was on for collection because it was large and I work full time so I couldn't get to the post office or wait in for a courier. After much discussion they admitted they had a made a mistake but then I had to sort it from my end because they didn't know how to withdraw their bid!! Tbh I could have held them to the deal and made them pay but i'm not like that. It was such a nuisance it has put me off putting items for sale for collection only, I will only sell things I can post from now on.

Ex-batts are lucky to have a nice home to go to - good luck with them. :D

That's really mean-spirited of them Aunty e

SJChick, I had a similar problem when Phil posted on ebay an collection only armchair that I was selling. the eventual buyer messaged asking how much it would cost to courier, despite it clearly being listed as collection only.

He won the auction and then was 'upset' to find that it was collection only and 300 miles away from him, which we had pointed out. The funniest part was that I had carefully listed the size of the armchair and that it would need a suitable vehicle to transport it... he turned out to have a Fiat 500  Eejit!

Oh that's rotten Aunty E :(

I've had a few horrible buyers on ebay but on the whole they are nice people. But just remember it was their son who bought and paid for it. He knows the value of these cubes, and is he who will be leaving you feedback, and I am sure he will be thrilled.

Enjoy your exbatts and hope they will cheer you up (((hugs)))

They sound like right twits.....let's hope their son is more sensible.

If it was listed as used, but cleaned, they have nothing to moan about.

The collection storys remind me of the trailer we sold, collection only, and the bloke lived in Italy.

He asked us to store it for him for a few months, during which time it got stolen.......nightmare!

:) Thank you, feel better now! I've had a bit of a mare with eBay recently - something I sold was lost by a courier and I obviously gave a refund to the customer, but have not managed to get compensation out of the wretched firm yet! Not masses of money, but it was a total pain at the time as the buyer got really pooey with me.

I bought my cube off ebay, and collected it with my son-in-law.

Really happy with it even though i was assured it would be power hosed clean,

ready to put together.

If you had scrubbed mine i would have been thrilled......It was filthy ,even had

dried on poo on the walls, ladder and mud on the roof, and the set of perches

and poo trays i won't describe.

And i needed new clips as i got exactly fifteen with it, No door pole, screen or grub.

After lots of elbow grease, hot water and a scrubbing brush it came out like new.

Omlet were fantastic in replacing missing bolts and door poles etc...

It was a bargin .I just wish he had hosed the poo off it before we got it.

He was extremely keen to see it go but winged at the fact i won it at a very low price

and he wished he had listed it to finish later in the day when the amount would of been higher.

I refused to let him annoy me, i gave him the cash and left.

My friend got hers again off ebay and to say it was 4yrs old it was emaculate and had been cleaned,

The LADY selling it had obviously adored her chickies

And to be honest i'm glad i cleaned mine as i knew it was really clean before i needed

it for my chickies.I did wonder what state his chickens had been kept in.

Bargins are there for the patient, but not everyone buying or selling are as nice

as you would like them to be.......

I remember when I sold my Cube, how hard it was to get it really clean - I jet-washed it, but unless you're drying it all off with towels and wrapping it up, it's nigh on impossible not to have mud or water splashes on it. I hope the real buyer - not the people collecting it - is thrilled with his Cube, it does leave a bit of a nasty taste though doesn't it, when the transaction goes like that.

PS I once bid on a rocking-chair, and missed out - the next day the seller contacted me to say that the winning bidder hadn't read the 'collection only' instructions, and it was mine if I wanted it! I can't believe so many people fail to read the information on eBay when it's so clearly marked.

Some people! They probably should have bought a new one, as that seems to be what they were expecting to get. And whoever bought that pooey one... I'd feel dead embarrassed if I was selling a coop and it was covered in chicken poo.

I was on cloud nine when I went to collect my eglu and the people selling it were marvellous, they helped us dismantle the run, so that we would then know how to put it back together. They even gave us some extra bits and pieces to replace a few worn out parts! :D

Sorry that you had to deal with people like that :(

I bought my cube of a lovely lady (a forum member :D ) who couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. She had obviously put a lot of effort into cleaning the cube and threw in some lovely extra's. It wasn't cheap but I still feel lucky to have got it  Hopefully this couple's son will be more appreciative.

Aw, thanks. I won't hear for ages, as he is in Ireland and they'll drive it over at some point in the next month or two. I purposefully didn't include my roosting bars in the sale, as I knew they wouldn't come clean enough for me to happy selling them, but I did at least find my bag of spare clips and a spare glug to throw in too.

Ebay isn't being my friend at the moment - I won a tandem pushchair at a decent price, not a total steal mind you, and the seller then contacted me to say that

"hi i was rly looking for no less than £X as this pram is worth more , never used ebay before so a bit confused with how everything works lol"

The price she wanted was £60 more than I bid, and from the sounds of things, she didn't understand about final value fees either. I just suggested she set a reserve next time, and that she cancel the sale as I wasn't prepared to pay that much. I have four more months to sort out a tandem, and I've had enough of eBay right now! Still nothing back, and that was yesterday lunchtime. Sigh. I suppose I can report her if need be.

You should, as this is often a ploy used buy sellers to extract money out of kind hearted sellers....If you've already paid, get in touch with PayPal...and report her anyway....I use Ebay a lot, and am staggered at the nerve of some people.

I bought my eglu off ebay, and it was grubby despite being advertised as pressure washed, and the bars were really poopy...but I know how hard it can be to scrub it up.....and I did get a few extras thrown in..but it wasn't cheap!!

I have been to collect some things , and the seller expects you to be grateful for the chance to own their stuff!

How awful. I've only ever had nice buyers for my stuff previously.

That said, I sold an item on eBay recently and have had delay after delay from the buyer. I sent them an invoice with all my details and when I heard nothing back, two weeks later, I sent them a polite reminder. They then replied asking for my details! They also promised to pay and collect. Despite my repeated request for payment on collection, they have paid by Paypal but still not arranged to collect their item. It's been well over a month and is getting annoying. Still, this is my first real hiccup after many years of fairly happy eBaying, so I suppose I shouldn't be too upset.

I'm sorry to hear about all your problems. I have bought quite a few things from ebay and never had any problems BUT I would love to sell some stuff on it, but can't quite pluck up the courage, and reading posts like this put me off even more. You obviously did your best and just got a very unrealistic and ungrateful buyer (or at least his parents).

Oh, if I'd paid she would be reported by now! I just don't want it hanging around on my profile. I'll give it a couple of days then report it if nothing happens. If nothing else, i've just paid my last lot of seller fees - I've sold over £1500 worth of stuff in the last few months, so it was ouchy. I don't see why anyone else should get to avoid them!

I generally try and sell stuff elsewhere if it's expensive (costs lots to sell) or needs collecting, but for Ikea/Omlet stuff it's much easier to do it on ebay as people generally know what they're getting. The nice girl who bought my sofa was thrilled with it, which was nice as I'd spent two days washing and drying the covers! The grumpy girl who bought my spare set of covers was really a pain in the bum, even though they were immaculate, nearly £150 cheaper than they would be in Ikea and I had them couriered to her beautifully packaged in a box. You win some, you lose some.

I only give people a week,10 days tops, then they are reported & my fees are reclaimed.

As Aunty e says, they can be pretty steep if you have been on a roll,so I never pay any that I don't need to.

After a month I think its too long for you to even do this though, however if you still can then you should :?

There are LOTS of serial non payers out there.......
