debadoodledoo
Chooks can be so aggressive I knew they could hold their own with cats (and yes our cat Henry is terrified of them!) but yesterday both girls (one gingernut and one pepperpot) were chasing birds out of the garden (which I found hilarious) has any one else seen them doing that? Sadly this morning we found an injured baby bird in the garden and flossie (gingernut) attacked it, god it was awful, my son and I really struggled to get Flossie off My chooks have firmly established themselves as the bosses of the garden! theherd123
My chooks have chased off some birds in the garden but have never attacked any, but i suppose thats just how nature works - the weak are picked off. Sad but true

Scary Mary
Late last week Bunty and Ginger caught a squirrel in their run raiding food. Ginger stood in the doorway and Bunty stood halfway up the run. Every time the squirrel tried to run for the door Bunty hurled herself at it, flipping herself backwards so her talons (?) were first thing to reach the squirrel. My son and I were quite shocked by our fiesty girls and relieved that the squirrel didn't hurt them before it finally escaped. I must confess that having seen this, I am a little concerned about welcome the girls are going to give to the new additions that will be joining our flock soon after my PINK cube arrives! Egluntyne
I'd let your new hens establish themselves in the cube and then add the others, maybe one at a time. Take away their home advantage and they may be less aggressive. Just a thought. Good luck. I love your forum name!
Janepie33
Did you know that the chicken is the closest living relative to the tyranosaurus rex? They do look scary when they are chasing the birds in the garden and I am sure that my girls would eat whatever they could catch, as they have already devoured a frog and a live mouse that my son had just released from a humane mouse trap! We do feed them. Honestly!

Helly Welly
Mine will happily chase pigeons and collared doves from the garden, no other bird even tries to land when the chooks are out
chelsea
ours hate mother in laws terrier which we are dog sitting for 2 weeks. I swear if we let them have their chance they would peck her like mad....or even worse... I think its because she is small than them...maybe they think she's another chicken? The Dogmother
Fleur, my tiny Japanese bantam took on my two big bunnies at the weekend. I left the run of the rablu open while I cleaned them out, and Fleur went in there and started to settle down in their bed. When the girls went over to move her on, Fleur started displaying and pecking them aggressively, it was funny at first, but I had to get her out of there quickly before she pecked one of them badly. Each of those bunnies is 3 times her size.
