Alis girls
I work late on Tuesdays and always wake the hens up when I go to get the eggs. Tonight they all seemed to be standing in Eglu but this could have been cos I woke them. Do they roost sitting or standing? The amazing thing was on reporting to OH (an intelligent guy) that they stood to roost he said in all seriousness "well they sat in Chicken Run" As I pointed out to him they also knit and listen to The Archers in CR but mine don't :lol:thought I was daft but this beats it all
Egluntyne
They usually 'stand' (perch) on the roosting bars......if they don't sleep in the nesting box.
sjp
all but 2 of mine sit either on the bars or in the nest box one sort of stands it looks like she's part way between sitting and standing. Boris for some reason known only to himself now stands either on the bar or in the nestbox before he went in with the girls he used to sit at least he no longer stands under the perch at night I#ll leave the rest of that bit for you to think about not a good look for a cockeral first thing in a morning

Laura & CTB
I have an IR camera in the cube so can watch them once they've gone to bed (well it's more interesting than normal tv!) Usually they spend about half an hour getting comfy and moving around plus a bit of preening then they settle down and end up sitting on the bars snuggled next to each other - apart from Guinevere who likes to sleep perched on the divider between the main area and nest box. Alis girls
Sounds very human to me. Half an hour to take off slap - and preen a bit then shuffle around to get warm and comfy - kick OH onto his side of nestbox sorry bed - I love idea of watching them when they dont know it. Laura & CTB
Sounds very human to me. Forgot to say that we can also hear them - and yes, they do snore too (well purr anyway)!!
Alis girls
Yes mine croon when I feed them its like singing but a cross between a purr and a croon - very soothing I am sure other owners will know the noise I mean
Gelbel
I love that 'chooks bedding down for the night' sound - they sound so happy and it warms the cockles of my heart. I think the DH loves that sound more than me.
