Flylady 2011 omleteer style anyone!

Recommended Posts

A bit of reverse flyladying has been happening round here :anxious:

I've been offered (and taken  ) so many new things this week, I will need to have a good old clear out to make room for stuff. I'm now the proud owner of; place mats and matching drinks coasters for my dining table, napkin rings, two watches, two biographies, one property book, and a lovely chicken cruet set.

I've still got lots of wood in the back yard from four weeks ago so hope to get a lot of this cut up over the weekend if the weather stays nice. It has got wet and dried out so many times

:D The good thing about decluttering is that I really enjoy the items that I've decided to keep. So, if the acquired items make you smile, and you've cleared out some less pleasing items, you're still on track. :D

Is anyone else following Flylady? At first I thought I would find it OTT, but I signed up and receive a daily email. I find it really encouraging and motivational. I thought I would find it irritating and cheesy, and would soon delete the account, but I look forward to it, it's made me enthusiastic. This topic and Flylady have transformed my life and home. :D

By the way, I've kept the not quite full '84 Vimto bottle, it makes me smile everytime I see it!

Anyone else dropping in to declutter today? :D (Couperwife is excused as she's eating cake, er, crafting, this w/e :) )

Hmm, I can see what's going wrong here, I am sitting in the kitchen surfing the net, still dressed in my PJs and dressing-gown (well, it IS Sunday morning!) with my bacon-and-egg plate beside me

I'm really interested in what you say Teabag - I have avoided signing up for the same reasons, too cheesy - but I'm not actually making much progress with the decluttering so far! That is largely because I have not had time, I seem to be out of the house more hours than I'm in it, but just gazing around I seem to be collecting books on the kitchen table again, the worktop has a random collection of things and the CDs are slowly marching away from the CD rack to take over the world. And that's without even starting on the other rooms, which tend not to be seen by visitors and so get rather less attention.

Really pleased to hear it's going well for you.

:D Thanks Olly, time is an important factor and I'm lucky this thread coincided with some deliberate extra time in the house. Recharging your own batteries is necessary, so an enjoyable lazy Sunday morning in a hectic week is important too.

The main thing I've learnt is not to be overwhelmed by the project. Deciding on one task and tackling it for 15 minutes really does stop the panic and then the rest follows.

A friend called unexpectedly and I was able to fling the door open and bring her into the kitchen without having to think "which is the least bad room to take her into!"

Right, I'm enjoying a restful Sunday too, but I shall choose my worst "dumping ground" surface, and spend 15 mins sorting.

Today, I am mostly clearing the big dining table. There's room for 3 to eat at one end, and the Euopean paper mountain at the other!

I haven't signed up either - can't bear things like that and hate to be nagged... it's counter-productive for me.

Busy weekend with Rosie's 13th birthday and all that entails... she's been given a lot of tat which I can see ending up at the charity shop  I have discovered an incentive for getting her to tidy her room.... If she has it tidied up this week then next weekend she gets a SIM only phone contract which she has been asking fro for ages. It is easily cancellable shoudl her room fall back to it's unhygienic and ghastly state :D:D

We shall see......

Cleaning out the fridge is good though! I wiped all the kitchen cupboards yesterday morning, didn't realise that white doors could get so mucky

Might have to have a proper look at the flylady site and get myself a rota

Managed to get rid of another couple of carrier bags of stuff to the charity shop over the weekend, and didn't buy anything whilst there either, result! I've also sorted a small pile of stuff to go on ebay, and taken pictures so I'm ready to list!

I'm still going through the spare bedroom, I've cleared a space just inside the door now  Half filled a bin bag with rubbish, and am going through some very old crafting magazines now.

Keep tidying everyone!

I'm with Clare on the flylady emails I don't think they would work for me but this thread is helping !

Spare bedrooms are the worst  I'm still clearing through the bedroom everything else ended up in including a massive holdall of interiors magazines. I don't like just throwing them out so I'm skimming through them before putting them in a bag for my sister but it's slow going

How lucky am I? My fave charity shop (St Luke's Hospice) is right next door to my feed suppliers, so every time I go to stock up on hen tranklements, I make myself take at least 2 bin bags full of stuff to the shop. It makes it a matter of routine now.

I tell myself I am saving petrol.

We are going to be moving soon & we will be seriously de cluttering. No real rush though as we will still have our house too. So we could just load everything in a van & transfer it to our new house in stages. Once this house is empty then it can go on the market. There's no rush.

Things will be different in our new house - as everything will have it's place & I'll hopefully have a dressing room & place for all my handbags.

Ah, I had seen the thread on MSE but only fleetingly, will take a proper look, ta!

I'm up to my neck in wood again  I'm almost opposite a cul de sac and spotted a skip up there yesterday. Today I saw a chap breaking up old floorboards so dashed out to ask if I could have the wood, he said yes, and he's cutting it into managable sized pieces too  He's cutting up some old joists for me tomorrow  Great timing as I'm off work this week!

I'm braving that front bedroom and finishing packing up all the Christmas decs that are not already in the loft. Sorted some that have hung around unused for ages - anything that would make scout hut more festive have been boxed to go there and odd bits put on freecycle although I doubt they will go this time of year. Edited to add - someone has requested them straight away in an email 'sent from my iphone' :? they are just a few odd bits, I'm amazed at such immediate interest :?

Need to brave the loft again. I thought I'd try and do a one in one out policy but seeing the pile of boxes to go up that will be a challenge

That said I did look in one box and found a gift to my boys from my MIL that I remember now went straight to the loft. It was a beverage fountain - like those chocolate fountains but bigger  and for drinks. We were all a bit bewildered so up into the loft it went

 another forum which I frequent has a christmas present dumpster section just after the festive season - it seems to do well

I find that so sad :(

I always receive such lovely, well thought out, presents and I find it so difficult to understand how people can get it so wrong :(

I took a carrier bagful of stuff to the CS yesterday - and only came back with one item from another CS. It was a size 24, long cotton top..........definitely not my size  ......but lots of fabric and it is PURPLE 8) , I'll remake it into something that fits!

Well I am immensely grateful for the link to the MSE website, which inspired me with the talk of 'hotspots'. I immediately identified one (handy flat surface at the foot of the stairs) and CLEARED IT! I've also culled a few cookery books that I never use, and got rid of about an 8" pile of brochures, catalogues etc which were stuffed in the kitchen bookshelf, and that's enabled me to reduce another hotspot in size.

Please keep posting on here, it inspires me!

I'm making a serious effort to clear that front room now. Putting all the stuff to keep together (finding homes for non furniture straight away if poss) I have a box for freecycle and a pile for unsure. I have too much fabric and general sewing stuff to fit in my new wardrobe :( so that is going to be a challenge.

Well now the weather is getting better and the evenings are lighter, I'm stalling with the clearing out in the house  So many things to do, flylady style, in the garden now

Managed to get another three carrier bags full to the charity shop yesterday and even went round four charity shops without buying anything, phew!
