Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

Just curious because my girls often go to the toilet in there so obviously it gets quite mucky. Does anyone put something like a shallow bucket so its easier to clean? Also because its curved, it makes it hard to get all the bedding out with a little trowel

Now you come to mention it, some kind of removable thing would be a good idea. I tend to just poo pick of a morning and give it a good clean and aubiose replace every week.

I use a gloved hand to scoop the nestbox material in to the tray then take the tray out

 

Some people line the nestbox with paper/lino to keep it all cleaner

I always line the nest box with newspaper (so the girls have something to read ) and then rapasorb on top. I watched one of the girls go into the eglu the other day and she stayed in there for a while so I assumed there would be an egg when she eventually came out, but no, all she'd done was turf out all the nice, fresh, clean rapasorb and shred the newspaper, she's obviously not a fan of the Daily Mail!!!

It would be great if there was a removable liner or similar for the nest box though, it would make cleaning much easier, if anyone from Omlet is reading !

Mine like pooing in the nesting box too. But I have a . I wash out the every other day (well, the roosting bars and poo tray) but change the nesting box every day. I use a cat litter scoop and flick out the rapport in the nesting box which then just falls through the roosting bars to the poo tray. And then replace with a small handful of rapport. Dirty girls - tut tut.

I was thinking this the other day, becaue I had just got mine to stop pooping in the nest box..and one of them has started doing it again, I tried newspaper, but they kick it all out, plus the aubiose....so am not sure...a line would be grerat..just whip it out into compost bin, and back in....wouldn't be too difficult to manufacture, perhaps in trug rubber like material....and a good revenue booster for Omlet...

I've been thinking the same. It would only have to be a simple plastic bowl type thing, can't be too difficult to manufacture I'd definitely buy one! I think I will try to line it with news paper on the next clean, they don't kick the bedding out so hopefully they will be fine with that

I use one of these but its not really long enough to collect all the poo - the difficult-to-s"Ooops, word censored!"e-with-an-ice-s"Ooops, word censored!"er corners and ends are still covered

I like the 3Dness of the basket liners and can see some which might work in the cube. Are they usually made from something compost-able?

Yes usually. The ones for wrought iron troughs would probably fit too!

I use news paper in my eglu and cube nesting parts as it save energy and time seems to wrk well in the eglu l fasten the paper under the roosting bars they never touch it.

I put a circular plastic plant pot tray in the nesting box. It's not a perfect fit but it is the best thing I have tried. It makes the nesting box more shallow but it doesn't seem to bother the chickens. It is so easy to remove through the egg port to clean.
