Ain't Nobody Here
Glad to hear that, OSH . Take it easy now . Alli, well done, I'm steeling myself for a run in a while. Have spent 3 hrs in the garden (first day we've not had torrential rain for ages ) so feeling knackered already . Got grass to cut too but it's soaking and really long . I'm tempted by those podcasts too. It's quite good that you don't have to buy the whole lot in a oner, so if i he voice proves too irritating, you've not lost too much money . Exciting news about the Scots Dumpies - I always think their name sounds really cute .
sparkysmum
Got my Dumpies, ever so lovely, all vaccinated 'n' everything. Goin' to handbell concert. Will post in "chickens" later
Ain't Nobody Here
You didn't hang about . Can't wait to see them . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, I downloaded week one of the half marathon Training Programme and went out for the first run. The bloke was OK to listen to but I really didn't think much of the music . I was disappointed to learn that you listen to the same thing each week, just extending your runs each week. I think I'd be sick to death of the music by the end of it. It was good having someone tell you when to change speed etc rather than looking at your watch constantly and having to memorise what you were supposed to do but I'm not sure it's for me. I might as well finish listening to week one (seeing as I've paid 79p for it ) but if I can't stand any more after that, I might just print off the programme and use my GPS watch to do it myself. Perhaps having a timetable might motivate me enough to keep at it . I can see how it would be really useful when you're starting out though . Bramble
The NHS Couch to 5k was MUCH better (not to mention free ) I don't really like the personal running trainer one, but I'll keep plugging away with it for a bit longer ... I had to Google dumpies, just to make sure they actually are chickens ... they sound a bit like some scottish delicacy, a relation to the haggis, or similar Looking forward to pics!!!!! Ain't Nobody Here
Just completed week one of the Half Marathon plan . It definitely motivates you to go out, knowing that you're supposed to complete a certain number of runs in a week . On the subject of music, I recently discovered Social Distortion and absolutely love them for running to . It may not be your cup of tea (it's classed as punk rock 'n' roll) but if it might be, check it out. I've only heard their latest album (Hard Times & Nursery Rhymes) so far but they've been around for years and have lots of albums.
cathybc
I am trying to get back into it after my hols - managed 3 runs in 2 weeks. Have now got post hol blues (but running was a great excuse to escape from mum and go and see my favourite waiter - who said I looked beautiful even with bright red face. I love Italian men!). Am trying to do it along canal and at gym; along canal it is just 'keep going', at gym am aiming to walk at 7.5km p/h and run at 10 km/hr.... sparkysmum
Thanks Vicki, not sure if it's for me. Did my 7 miler today at even slower than usual pace. Going to Simon's 10k tomorrow. Fingers crossed for no rain. Have fun. Alli x
Ain't Nobody Here
It's much better than the Runners World programme . That's so complicated I just know I couldn't keep it up. I need the motivation of a programme, I've decided, I'm just too lazy otherwise . Good luck to Simon tomorrow . Which 10k is he doing? sparkysmum
Sparkysdad did it First 10k on his own 54mins 22secs. Jolly brilliant I think for someone who, until recently wouldn't run for a bus if he had to. Hot on his heels was an 83yr old who has been running all his life. Amazing Have a good week everyone. Alli xx

sparkysmum
Thanks everyone, he's too modest. I'm so unfit Just had a run with Simon, only a couple of miles but had to stop about every half mile..........so frustrating. Carrying about an extra stone too but too lazy to do anything about it........help
Ain't Nobody Here
You're hardly lazy, Alli . I too am carrying more than I should round my middle (think extra bumbag but round the front ). The way I look at it, think what size we'd be if we didn't run at all - at least we're doing one thing right . My 3 boys did a hillrace this evening. For the first time, both boys beat OH . The king is dead, long live the king .
cathybc
Hello all you good runners, I need some trainer advice! Mine have fallen to pieces (from being about 10 years old, not from over-use, I must stress ) I run a couple of times a week, at the gym and outside, and am aiming to build up to 10K i.e. I don't need hard core running shoes. But I also do classes like spinning and Zumba. What should I look out for/avoid? Can I just go for a known make (Reebok, Nike etc) in a colour that I like? Thank you for your help.... Ain't Nobody Here
I'd go to a shop that analyses your running gait. You don't have to spend a fortune, just tell them your budget. I wouldn't ever buy an "off-the-peg" pair now, I'd always get advice. Some makes fit better than others and it's sometimes hard to tell which by yourself. Bramble
Hello!!!! I'm just checking in to say hello! I've been lurking on this thread and see that you're all doing really well I'm not doing quite so well though I had planned to join my local gym on Monday so that I could use the treadmill to alternate with running out and about, but then fell down the stairs on Sunday night , boy, did I see stars I'm OK, haven't broken anything (I don't think!) but really don't feel up to running at the moment. Keep going everyone, I am hoping to get going again soon (my left leg is a very interesting shade of purple at the moment) Feel stupid, stupid, stupid but am inspired by the progress you are all making, even if I'm taking more backward steps at the moment! Ain't Nobody Here
Oh no . Thank goodness you didn't break anything . Hope the bruising subsides soon and you can resume your running .
Bramble
I was lucky really, it was only my head colliding with the front door that broke my fall, it could have been something really important ... What a total PLONKER
Ain't Nobody Here
(I once tripped over *ahem* nothing while out running and landed on my face, breaking a bone in my hand in the process . So you're in good company .)
