bluekarin
new series starts tomorrow night, BBC1 at 9pm (a bit late, and my YD will be unhappy about this as she loves it) and is on Thursday at the same time. I am really looking forward to it. I hope it will go back to the proper cookery skills of the old show. I did like the recent one, I just felt a lot of people went on there to learn how to cook and not show off what they could cook. Anyway, can't wait I wonder what the 'in' food will be this series? There seemed to be a lot of scallops with black pudding and sometimes a pea puree
Rhapsody
Love love love it- and love John and Greg, honours graduates from the BARRY SCOTT School of Presenting
Chucky Mama
Can't wait. Poor DD has band rehearsal on Wednesday night so I may have to watch it back as she is my foodie partner. We sit in bed and watch it together. We take it in turns nipping downstairs for snacks as it gives us the munchies (actually that it a lie - I always send her )
CallyChook
Chucky, I loved that last comment We can't wait here either - absolutely love MC. Facebook Masterchef page has been giving out info on past winners and how they're doing. James's (2008) introduction was always "new dad James"... he was in the final with an 18 yr old called emily. wonder what happened to her, anyone know? she was fairly revolutionary in style! bluekarin
Well, not that impressed tbh. Too much like an X factor wannabe and not enough about the food And why did that young mum of three under the age of 8 not get a second chance? Her mash was the only bit that was wrong. Him with the far too reduced jus got through. I hope it picks up, or I might have to give it a miss this year
Chucky Mama
I hated the new X factor style. It was so faked by all parties. I hope that it improves otherwise I'll be very disappointed.
newcountrygirl
I agree - I didn't like the new format - all a bit too staged with John making his decision then Greg looking at him and doing a double take before he states his decision. Most of the people on last night seemed poor by comparison to previous years.
Bramble
I thought they were much more picky at the beginning of the show, but as time went on and they still had lots of places available they said yes to people who I didn't think would have got through earlier in the show? Lydia
That assumes it was shown in the sequence it was filmed which I think is unlikely. I thought new look Masterchef was dire! We really used to enjoy our fix of The Shouty Men but I don't think we'll be watching again - far too much X Factor in there now. It was so obviously staged too - did anyone else notice the bit when they eliminated the mother of 3 and John Torode put his head in his hands. On the close up you see him flick his eyes towards the camera quickly as if to say "can I stop pose this yet? Have you got enough of my 'anguish' on camera?" Wish I'd watched the elephant thing now. Chucky Mama
There was lots of man hugging and back patting going on too It was quite uncomfortable viewing. I really hope it settles down
C&T
Agree. Was not the best. Hope it settles down and concentrates on the Cooking soon...
Peaches
Gutted. Masterchef used to be our favourite shout-at-the-telly programme. Now it's just a emotion-fest of the worst kind, with food pushed into second place. What an absolute disappointment. Why on earth would we want to meet relatives and friends in the first episode and listen to ??? Oh, well, back to watching The Killing. Jennifer Jane
I'm obviously in the minority , but I don't mind the new format at all. I really love Australian Masterchef, which is a huge success Down Under, and they have based this year's Masterchef a bit on that. I would urge you to give it some time. I find that, because you stay with the contestants for many weeks, you really get to know them. In the old programme, where they had heats, it often seemed that one day they'd have all poor contestants, so a below par cook would go through. Then the next day there would be 2 or 3 good cooks, so a good cook would go out. Doing the selection this way stops that from happening. Having said that, Australian Masterchef stopped showing the audition rounds after series 1. I'm currently also watching Masterchef New Zealand - a bit of a Master chef addict
