Hard Abdomen?

Recommended Posts

Davina has been to the vets recently, but still not sure what's up. Read loads of posts about peritonitis and draining fluid from the (hard) abdomen.

She's still stuffing her face (crop empty/full at the right times) but poos are small, clear/white and strained. Breathing is fine, but unless I cradle her by the Keel, she doesn't like picking up. She does 'waddle'.

Oldest girl, and still strong though.

Booked for the vets on Thursday (again), but wonder how to 'suggest' she need draining to the vet.

Thanks

Ruled out peritonitis as she'd been bow legged for a few weeks, and hasn't laid for over 2 years.

Took a sample from abdomen, and it was green! He put it on a monitor and said that there was 90% blood in the sample.

Thought he would have drained it off, but only took a sample. She then started 'leaking' clear liquid which was then followed by traces of blood from the needle hole.

As she's still bossing the others and generally ok (eating and freeranging with the others) we were reluctant to have her PTS, especially as the symptoms were not 100%. She's still very well behaved and enjoying life.

He did start to tell me about ops and xrays, but said that they hate stress and she'd probably die anyway.

So we're still not sure, but letting her slide if she wants to.

Thanks for your concerns

Well, she couldn't stand up at all this morning. We made the decision that her time had come.

So with sad heart and streaming eyes she was pts.

Even though, she stood up for Mark (the vet) and we think she had a soft spot for him - she was a flirt.

As he was getting the stuff together she closed her eyes, and almost slipped with no help.

Thanks for every ones help.

Hugs Stacey :(
