Henslaved
Well I have finally got my two guinea fowl trained . They're more obedient than my dog . I only have to call them once and they come flying, flapping and running . They will also feed from the hand, depending on what I'm offering . But if it's live wriggly mealworms........... Poor quality pics, as I took stills from my video Tom eats finger 'ouch' Barbara eats thumb 'ouch' Tom eats thumb 'owwwww' Tom eats thumb again 'ow, ow, ow' In the end I just threw the mealys on the floor, my thumb couldn't take any more their beaks are a lot sharper than the hens'. Henslaved
They do look strange till you get used to them . You can't tell from the pics but they have really long eyelashes too One of my friends once described them as "vultures that have been in the clowns' make up box"
mollyripkim
That sounds like a really good description, I bet they are interesting to have around.
Snowy
I love the expression on the hens face "How rude!" - she is really looking down her beak at their uncouth eating habits!

Old Speckled Hen
They are lovely. Do they live with the hens or have they their own place? Are they really noisy? Do you let them free range and do they fly away? I don't really want any, you know
Henslaved
Do they live with the hens or have they their own place? They live with my last remaining hen Greta. When they arrived I had no idea how old they were, but was told they were quite young . I kept them in the run for a fortnight, with me going inside most days just to sit with them and offer them treats to get them used to me. Are they really noisy? Only when alarmed, or if they see something strange that they're not used to. When we first got them they weren't too noisy in the run, but when we eventually let them out to FR everything was strange to them and they were very noisy . But now they have settled and are only occasionally noisy. Do you let them free range and do they fly away? Yes, they free range with Greta (semi-supervised), I think the previous owner had had their wings clipped as some of the feathers I have found have certainly been cut, but new ones have grown and they haven't flown away yet . They really are mad birds Where one goes the other follows, and they can't half run, they're like mini Road Runners "Meep, Meep" Queueing for the dust bath C'mon you done yet Time up, out you go Ahhhhh! all mine Tom standing guard over Barbara while Greta isn't looking. Lewis
They're great! Would love a pair were it not for the noise! Maybe when I can buy a farm
kinsk
Have just been linked to this post. Do you still have Tom and Barbara? Love their names We are thinking about getting some. They would have to live with out hens. I was wondering about food, did you feed yours all the same or seperately? I love the dust bath pictures! Henslaved
Sadly I had to find Tom and Barbara new homes as they started attacking Greta for some reason. I did feed them all the same and they all lived together happily for about 3 months until the guineas started to get really agressive towards Greta. Hope you have better luck with yours, as they are very entertaining.
