Cinnamon
I am a complete product junkie. I love trying out new things & am a total sucker for advertising Over the years I have found a few things that I now could not live without,& I wanted to share my latest one with you all. It Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum,as featured on Horizon. They tested a load of anti age beauty treatments of varying prices & this stuff, at £17 for a bottle that lasts months, outshone them all,as a product that actually makes a visible difference to the skin. I got some about 2 months ago, just after the TV show & just before it sold out nationwide,& I must say that it is amazing stuff. Having been a Clinique user for about 10 years,I have never been so impressed with a skin product as with this stuff. I had quite big pores around my nose & they are now much, much smaller,as well as making my skin more refined & smoother. Its still in short supply, but if you can find it do buy it & try it
Guest
The Boots in Edinburgh had a small delivery of that stuff the other weekend, and they had to open the shop early, as word got out, and they had a big queue of women desperate for the anti-wrinkle miracle in a tube! JohnP
Be aware that the reason that this is only product with published scientific backing is that it's the only product to have carried out these tests. There are risks to negative results, which tends to put off the marketers! Be aware also that most moisturising products perform approximately as well as Vaseline or basic aqueous cream - they just cost a lot more. Also notice that the study didn't compare the Boots cream against other anti-ageing products, just against basic moisturiser, so you've no idea whether this really works better than other anti-ageing products. And, most importantly, the study used a surrogate outcome - they didn't judge whether skin looked younger (a very hard thing to measure, but the thing you're actually interested in) but rather at the microscopic structure of the proteins in the skin and how well linked they were. Indeed, in most such creams, the active ingredient is vitamin A (tretinoin) or a precursor (often called things like "pro-retinol"). The Boots cream simply contains more of this compound. And the reason most compounds contain less is that high levels cause inflammation and redness. (Lots of this info, by the way, is from BadScience.) If you find this cream works, go for it - but be aware that it is a pharmaceutical. The main benefit of the stuff is that it's a lot cheaper than many similar products. bronze
All sounds too horrifically chemical for me (yes I know there are natural chemicals) my wonder product find is hemp oil and all the people I have convinced to try i tlove it too

Unless you have tried them all. Which I have (or it certainly seems that way, anyway!) Believe me,when I say I am a slave to product,I really mean it This Boots serum has made a marked difference to my skin, & thats enough for me to keep using it (until something better comes along, that is!) Nicola H
Sarah i tried to get hold of the protect and perfect serum but it was out of stock I am so glad that it was because really I don't have any visible wrinkles but do suffer with what they call high colouring on the make-up counters. I have tried like you every product around to try and calm my skin and have spent a fortune on products but at the No. 7 counter found a product called Calm skin and it is wonderful my skin feels great and it has calmed down so much i am very pleased with it, so again i would rcommend No.7 products in general and they are very affordable.................One cream i have used in the past cost me £28 for a very small tube that only lasted 3 weeks. Looney
aha! It all makes sense now....I went to Camden last Friday to meet a friend and was killing time (arrived early as always!) in Boots. Now I know what the queue of ladies giving their contact details to a sales girl was all about! They were reserving the cream I feel enlightened now [Although a few of them had wrinkles that this cream certainly wouldn't shift, if I'd have known I would have advised polyfiller - ooh what a cow I am ]
Popcorn
I love Boot's products. They don't test on animals either. Might have to give that one a go Sarah. Try and nip the wrinkles in the bud before they get out of hand!
Charlottechicken
That's a really good recommendation Sarah, I might give it a try. My best ever product is Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish. It is wonderful, really good for greasy skin (you wash it off) and she uses excellent ingredients. She has something to do with the eczema society as well so her products are really gentle. I want to try her shower gel but it is sooo expensive! Check out her products here www.Lizearle.com

Try and nip the wrinkles in the bud before they get out of hand! Best to nip'em in the bud ,Gina! You don't really need a moisturizer with it either (well,I didn't), as its got a lovely velvety texture. No real wrinkles here yet,but it did my pores the world of good,so its worthwhile trying to track down
Popcorn
I'm not sure if I've got laughter lines or wrinkles actually! I think I have a few small crows feet creeping in...... i have terrible combination skin. Oily on the cheeks but dry as a bone around the nose and forehead. With this and the clothes thread, I'm done for!
Karen & co.
I had a free sample of this a few months ago so I dug it out the other day to give it a go, haven't noticed a difference yet but I guess I should give it time karen x
Louise
My only comment on this is to urge you to only use products from UK companies rather than European ones as currently in Europe they can still test these things and their ingredients on animals The UK is the only place to have outlawed this practice Which is why the sell out of the body shop is such a worry As for the products themselves I wouldn't use any of them personally
Sheilaz
I am a complete product junkie.I love trying out new things & am a total sucker for advertising.... Sarah, I'm just the complete opposite to you! I abhor "must have" products (water's good enough for me), and generally mentally switch off at anything to do with products and advertising (and throw in "celebrities" to this too). Wouldn't do if we were all the same, but on this subject we're poles apart! Importantly we have chickens in common, but I'll leave all products to you. I was going to say, I only want things that are necessary, but we all have different views on where that line is drawn don't we? ...which is probably why your skin looks fab, and my face has the lived in look. PS. I do like a trace of makeup, & think that is a good point, Louise.

Sheilaz
Thanks, Sarah! I have bought products recommended by Omleteers, but they've been things like tea tree oil, borax and white vinegar. ..and Crocs! Now, I did follow you down that road Cinnamon, so you do know your stuff. Do you think I shoud start a new topic in case we don't have enough Croc topics? Louise
Sheila I bought a 5 litre bottle of white vinegar last night I have shower gel and shampoo is the house that haven't been opened in over a year I just keep them for visitors Oh and I have a bottle of olive oil IN THE BATHROOM I use it instead of moisturiser or hand cream
The Dogmother
Oh and I have a bottle of olive oil IN THE BATHROOM I use it instead of moisturiser or hand cream I did wonder what you were cooking up in your bathroom Louise Seriously though, I use hemp oil as a body moisturiser and it's great, although a friend who is an aromatherapist tells me that grapeseed oil is more beneficial, so I might try that next. Rub it in when you're still wet from the shower and it works wonders. I've used it for years and didn't get one stretch mark when I was preggers, and golly was I enormous!
