chuckmum6
I used to play the flute to grade 5. YS plays the trumpet, but is swapping to the sax in a couple of weeks, ES used to play purcussion, but the amount of prep he gets meant it was too much, so sadly he stopped. My mum was very musical. goodinparts
Mmn Ex choral scholar here, also piano, cello, recorders..Taught music for a bit (mostly piano to adult beginners) when my children were little & before vicaring kicked in. .DD plays violin/viola (the latter in a rock band) & sings....Older son plays flute and is another choral scholar, and younger son plays clarinet, sax, bass & tin whistle and is a chorister too. You have to feel sorry for my OH, who is so not a musician it's not funny....though he does bell ringing, so probably makes a louder noise than all the rest of us put together
Looney
I used to play clarinet until I was 18. I was about to take Grade 8, had learnt all the pieces and scales but decided not to take the exam I was terrified of music exams and panicked (plus was in middle of A Levels too) but I kind of regret not doing it. I also played recorder until I was 18 and used to teach the year 7 & 8 recorder group at school. This was a trade off with the music teacher who was also my form teacher - I taught her groups and she turned a blind eye to me breaking a few rules here and there! Disgraceful eh?! Lavenders_Blue
Looney - I did exactly the same thing. I had all the grade 8 music which I had learnt and could play really well, but was let down by my scales (which I never learnt) so didn't take the exam. I really regret it, not taking my grade 8 feels sort of 'unfinished' although of course it doesn't matter now. Just wish I had spent less time listening to my brother (no need to learn scales, if you see a scale in a piece of music you can just read it ) and more time learning my scales! I might have got the hang of improvisation on the sax if I'd knuckled down and learnt my scales!
Seagazer
Mrs Webmuppet - thank you for that, maybe one day I will give it a go.
Gertie
I do play the harp, but quite badly, and the piano, also quite badly...and the recorder even worse! I have an accordion under the bed which I would like to learn one day!
Charlottechicken
I am rather jealous! I have a beautiful Canadian Victorian parlour organ, an acoustic guitar I won last year, a pretty pink recorder and a pair of castanets and can't play any of them. I have absolutely no rhythm, I can't even dance I can't even clap in time to music. I was once at a Brian May concert with a similarly inflicted friend, and we tried to clap along to 'We will rock you' (you know the bit, all the hands in the air). I'm so glad they never filmed it, we stuck out like sore thumbs

Valkyrie
Used to play clarinet - can't read music properly, but I can do it by ear. I used to listen to my friend (she could read music) and picked it up from that. Those days have long gone. I would have loved to play piano, both my grandmother and my mother could play. Guest
What a lot of lovely music I am a singer principally, but play the flute and piano as well. Also soprano, alto and bass recorders. Sadly I find the tenor too difficult as my fingers won't reach for some reason. My DH is a very good pianist and a pipe organist. He also plays the oboe and recorders. Between them our children play double bass, piano, flute, guitar, French Horn and ukelele as well as all recorders. I work as Director of Music in a church with a strong musical element. We have two choirs, an orchestra and a men's singing group. I also teach recorders and singing and work part-time in a school. My DH and I met at university where we were both reading music. ED now has a music degree and second Daughter is in her first year of a music degree I think it has been suggested before that we have an Omlet virtual Band!! kitbag
I play the bassoon and the piano to grade 8 standard and am thinking about doing my diploma in each during my gap year!
The Dogmother
Not these days but I used to play the piano. Rosie plays the piano, guitar (electric) and bass guitar, Phil used to be a drummer in a band. Rosie's dad plays classical guitar.
