whoopsie
Oh thank you x I'd forgotten how bad it makes you feel (which is probably a good thing). Problem is i'm supposed to have an operation on Thursday, and if I can't shift this it'll get cancelled!
Seagazer
Lots of sympathy from me, its horrible having tonsilitis, hope it goes before your op. Good luck for that too.
chickencam
Loads of sympathy from me. I have had quite a few horrible bouts over the years. Fortunately I have been ok for about the last 10 years, with just the odd minor flare up that has had me worried. Get plenty of rest, take painkillers, do you usually need antibiotics to shift it? Egluntyne
Sympathetic post. Hope you feel better soon.
whoopsie
You lovely people xx I saw the GP this morning and he's given me antibiotics which i've started. I might not have bothered but i'm worried about the op. Lovely GP laughed and told me if people didn't 'bother' him he'd be out of a job! He also told me to take regular painkillers. I went to work but gave up and came home to bed. Hope i'm a bit better tomorrow.

freddie
Me too, loads of sympathy, as I have the throat of razors, and the neck of hell. Lots of drugs from this morning, as I had to suffer all weekend until the practise opened today
whoopsie
Oh a fellow sufferer, we can wallow in self-pity together! Hope you get better soon too. I would really like to be able to go to sleep - simple pleasures denied! Edited March 8, 2011 by Guest

fluffyfeet
I was told to gargle with soluble aspirin to help sort the little devils out - but remember not to swallow it I suffered for years and eventually had them taken out at 21 - and then to add insult to injury no jelly and ice-cream. Instead they made me eat crispy bacon and well done toast - Yuck! Hope you feel better soon. Dawn x
whoopsie
Not swallow it? Defeats the object surely? I have some soluble ibuprofen to try - sure it'll taste vile but if it works I don't care! On the plus side I got a bit of sleep last night so maybe the antibiotics are kicking in already.
ClaireG
Ooh ouch tonsillites is horrid. I used to suffer really badly when i was little and had my tonsils out when i was 9. Am hoping the anti biotics are starting to work and that you will be ok for Thursday.
whoopsie
I have worked out that by Thursday i'll have had 3 complete days worth of antibiotics - reckon that'll have got rid of most of it. For my fellow sufferers, the soluble ibuprofen did taste vile but also eased the pain considerably. Gargle and swallow (over the sink just in case!!!). It's very boring sitting in bed though. Saronne
I had a bout of tonsilitis a few weeks ago. Every inch of my body ached and I had nasty white spots on my tonsils Fortunately, the antibiotics worked a treat and cleared it up after a few days. My GP said that he'd seen a lot more cases this year. Hope you feel better real soon. Saronne x
whoopsie
No white spots (which I was expecting) but my ear feels like it's going to explode! What the hell have I done to myself now? 2011 is not a healthy one so far - this is the 4th infection I think
The Dogmother
Nasty stuff, take care and get better soon. I found that gargling with Aloe dent aloe vera mouth wash helped for some reason.
ChrisP
Do you have to have white spots for it to be tonsilitis? I've always had them, but then I've had a cracking sore throat/neck/glands since sinday night
whoopsie
I don't know I thought you did but the GP said it's definately tonsillitis. I look in the mirror and half my throat is closed off! Must be doing the rounds at the moment. Hope you are feeling better soon too x
Saronne
I think you can have viral (without spots) or bacterial (with spots) tonsilitis. Both sorts make you feel horrible. My GP was more than happy to dole out the antibiotics when he saw the spots. Normally, he's quite strict about not giving them.. whoopsie
Update - the tonsils seem to be getting better -hoorah! However I got a phone call as we were driving to the hospital to say there isn't a bed for me! VERY annoying.
