Tonsilitis

Recommended Posts

Loads of sympathy from me. I have had quite a few horrible bouts over the years. Fortunately I have been ok for about the last 10 years, with just the odd minor flare up that has had me worried. Get plenty of rest, take painkillers, do you usually need antibiotics to shift it?

You lovely people xx

I saw the GP this morning and he's given me antibiotics which i've started. I might not have bothered but i'm worried about the op. Lovely GP laughed and told me if people didn't 'bother' him he'd be out of a job! He also told me to take regular painkillers.

I went to work but gave up and came home to bed. Hope i'm a bit better tomorrow.

I was told to gargle with soluble aspirin to help sort the little devils out - but remember not to swallow it

I suffered for years and eventually had them taken out at 21 - and then to add insult to injury no jelly and ice-cream. Instead they made me eat crispy bacon and well done toast - Yuck!

Hope you feel better soon.

I have worked out that by Thursday i'll have had 3 complete days worth of antibiotics - reckon that'll have got rid of most of it.

For my fellow sufferers, the soluble ibuprofen did taste vile but also eased the pain considerably. Gargle and swallow (over the sink just in case!!!).

It's very boring sitting in bed though.

I had a bout of tonsilitis a few weeks ago. Every inch of my body ached and I had nasty white spots on my tonsils :vom:

Fortunately, the antibiotics worked a treat and cleared it up after a few days.

My GP said that he'd seen a lot more cases this year. Hope you feel better real soon. :D

I think you can have viral (without spots) or bacterial (with spots) tonsilitis. Both sorts make you feel horrible.

My GP was more than happy to dole out the antibiotics when he saw the spots. Normally, he's quite strict about not giving them..
