My chicken is up a tree...

Recommended Posts

She is petrified - every time I go near her shaking a tub of mealworms she climbs up even higher. It's one of our new girls (the White Star) that we only got yesterday. I had a malfunction with the run door and she escaped - Agnes chased and pecked her, she flew up onto the wall and then hopped onto the tree in the next door neighbours garden.

Just rang the RSPCA for advice - they said to leave it til 5pm, if she's not come down then to ring them back.

YIkes, one on my new girls roosted in a tree on day 2 but it was low enough to 'encourage' her down with a broom. Is there any way of getting a ladder up? The RSPCA usually get help from the Fire Brigade but they usually have a 48 hour 'wait and see' rule as wont risk someone's safety before they are sure something is truly stuck. As she is safe from predators, I would be inclined to leave her to see if she will come down when less stressed.

Update.....she came down after a cat ran up the tree! She landed in the next door neighbours garden so I legged it over the wall, tried to catch her, couldn't, shouted my housemate for help, we legged it over the wall again, chased her round the garden, couldn't catch her and now she's up the tree again :wall::wall:

RSPCA are on the way with a net and if they time it right, the inspector will be just in time for roast pork and all the trimmings

It's just Agnes that's bullying the new ones, all the others are getting on fine. I might put her on growers

You lot are terrible!

Chixxer went back up the tree about 10 mins before the RSPCS dude arrived. Luckily she'd not gone too far up and was still on the lower branches. He hopped onto the wall, she got spooked and jumped onto the ground and ran/flew up to out other neighbours kitchen door. RSPCA man caught her after much flapping and squarking and she is safely back in the Eglu.

Well, I say safely - Agnes the big bully isn't being very kind at all to our newbies but they are getting used to their new surroundings and they are building up their confidence day by day.

They are all going to bed at night time fine, in the morning we leave them to it but we are going home at lunchtimes to let the old girls (and the bantams) free-range so the new girls can have the Eglu and run to themselves. They needed picking up out of the Eglu and putting in the run on Mon & Tue but yesterday they came out on their own once the monsters were out of the way. Ninja even dared venture out at breakfast time but was soon chased by Agnes back into the Eglu.

There's been no feathers lost and no blood so we are happy to let things continue to improve on their own - but it's going to be a slow process!!
