Down in the mouth

Recommended Posts

Literally.

Had a sore throat starting about two weeks ago. No cough. Last week i developed an ulcer on the roof of my mouth where i thought a sharp bit of crisp had stabbed it. To top it off, that night i also scorched the roof of my mouth on a hot cherry tomato. This area and pretty much the entire roof of my mouth is now one large set of ulcers. I'm so sore. Luke warm soft food for me since then. I'm seriously considering baby food! LOL.

Just back from the docs (Well, i actually saw a nurse practitioner who looked horrified by the state of my mouth and wasn't 100% sure what the cause is either  ) so now I've got steroid tablets to dissolve on my ulcers four times a day and a course of Penicillin. Hope it works. It's one extreme and painful diet I'm on!

Sorry, just feeling a bit sorry for myself and i know you guys would be able to cheer me up.

Thanks guys

I've been using corsadyl or cordasyl (or whatever it's called) mouthwash twice a day as I remember having that recommended by my dentist after a gum infection. I swill round with salt water twice a day at work. I'm using bonjela like it's going out of fashion and strepsil extra strongs are my new best friend! Lollies can be a bit too cold (And ice cream with choc round it makes them sting). Even water from our dispenser at work is too cold at the moment.

Such a sick-note eh?

Vitamin B12 is great for preventing mouth ulcers.

I got a monster of one on our honeymoon, right in front of my bottom front teeth & very deep - you could see the swelling from outside too.

I used this thick paste stuff (orabase I think) with a Adcorytl treatment in it & it cleared it up really well.

Its odd stuff, but it protects it & heals it too.

It was immensely painful,so I do feel for you.

Think about starting on a B12 supplement too.

Yes, I would definitely echo the vitamin B cure - it works quite rapidly too. I think I took Vitamin B Complex, as I think there are two B vitamins htat come into play, and I can never remember which. I think Zinc helps too. I was amazed at how effective it was. Hope you are feeling better soon. :(

Thats curious 'cause both the pharmacy and dentist told me last year that it had been discontinued- I've just done some quick research and have the answer, they were obviously confused:

Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals Ltd has announced that Adcortyl™ in Orabase™ 0.1% (triamcinolone acetonide in oral paste) 10g will be discontinued by 31st March-2009 or when current stock is exhausted. Adcortyl™ in Orabase™ for Mouth Ulcers (triamcinolone acetonide in oromucosal paste) 5g (P) will remain available through the company

That's interesting about the Corsadyl.

I recommended it to my daughter when she had probs. with her gums when her wisdom tooth was coming through.

She used some the other day and it 'burnt' her tongue! It was sore for quite a while. I think she said she had perhaps used too much or kept it in her mouth too long?

So presumably it's helping and not actually making things worse?

I've used it before with no problems. Well, it does affect your sense of taste slightly though. There are a looong list of do's and don'ts and warnings on it so she may be sensitive to it. In which case I wouldn't advise she use it again. I mentioned that i was using it to the nurse and she said I might as well carry on.

There's 2 lots of Corsodyl mouth wash - one for normal use with the alcyfrol and the heavy duty kill the germs one which can burn. It can also turn your tongue and gums black I had to use it for a couple of weeks when I had an abscess and the jaw bone was infected along with heavy duty antibiotics - no alcohol allowed (yar boo sucks :boohoo: )! I've learnt to just use it on the area that needs to be sorted - namely a flap of skin over a partially erupted wisdom tooth. And if I feel it's going to be a problem I just dip a cotton bud in and squeeze it over the irritation. Now the toothpaste is something else! It says it takes time to get used to the unusual flavour (it's quite yukky) but yep, I am used to it - doesn't make it taste any better though!
