Poor Betty Boop my beautiful Araucana has been hunched for a few days so has been put in the hospital ward. When I picked her up she was extremely light! Hubby has given her a choice of layers pellets, some boiled rice & some wheat & will try anything to get some weight back on her. She came back into lay about a week or so ago, but nothing since. Could an egg have ruptured or could it be worse? Is there anything we can try to help?

Could it be a softee? That's normally why mine are hunched. She might not have felt like eating either. But I'm sure you're doing the right thing in putting her in the hospital ward.

Her abdomen feels like it normally does, but no meat on her ( pardon the saying).

Well, that is a good sign then Is she bright and eating ? Are you sure there is a problem health wise rather than her just being a scrawny laying weight?

I'm very sad to say that Betty Boop passed away last night.

She was my only green egg layer - I called her my Easter egg chicken - as we got her Easter Sunday 2 years ago. She was already laying when we bought her. I now think she was older when we got her.

Such a lovely girl - I do have a photo of her that is gorgeous - but today wouldn't be appropriate to post it.
