peckingham palace
Open it straight away, get all the bits spread out so that he can start putting it together the minute he gets home - well its priority isn't it. Had my cube since last Thursday and loving it. Hubby has extended the run we initially bought so that they have the whole of one side of the garden and we bought 2 more chickens as well. You will have great fun with it all - enjoy!! What colour did you go for? Dee
suzannejoy
Well so far Ive opened a few boxs got the glug and grub out . But have restrained myself ..... it started to spit with rain here and hubby called me and I said (before he even said hello) "Its not raining! lol ..... I will go and get a divers suit for him if I have to ! So Have hubby and friends arriving at 5 today . I did go and buy some layers mash for the ex bats on saturday sort of got talked into the smalholders range for exbats ? which is £5 more than the usual mash. Thinking I will put my 3 in the cube for now and use the wir for the exbats untill intros are done . Think the wir will be abit easily as far as its already got a wooden ramp and I wont have to crawl into it to put then to bed . ps its a green cube with extentions . scarlettohara
Good Luck with your cube and ex-bats, I had 2 in my arms today for a cuddle (I have a huge soft spot for my latest batties ). You are right to buy them something with a bit more in it than layers - unfortunately mine only like Garvo
suzannejoy
Well its up , took hubby and a friend 2 hours so not bad . Will introduce my ladies to it tomorrow as it was too late tonight . I do have a question for anyone that has a cube that is the door fastener(pole) is very short and I dont think closers the door properly is everyones like that ? Other than this I am very happy so far with it .
poppy ben grace
Hi have you pulled it right out you have to turn it clockwise to unlock it i think. It took a while to get the hang of mine but if you have any worries i would ring omlet they are very helpful.

karlotta
If I remember correctly the big run door has two short poles instead of one big one? Do you have second one?
peckingham palace
My cube door pole is a bit dodgy, as long as I pull it straight and and push straight back it works. If I turn it the door locks and is impossible to open with dismantling the whole mechanism. Girls had great fun watching me struggle with it the other day whilst trying to show a friend how wonderful a cube is and why she must must get one. You certainly won't regret getting one. We thought about starting off with a classic or a go and DH said just to get the whole hog and get a cube first, so glad we did. A dream to clean can't even call it a chore. Enjoy xx
suzannejoy
Yes there was 2 poles found the second pole this morning in one of the boxs . My 3 ladies were introduced to there new home this morning and seemed to enjoy it Had a good old scratching and then a bath in the new bedding ( Omelettes bedding) . But Tonight would not go up to the cube to sleep , So had to climb in the run which being slighty ouer weight was quite funny and then I had to pick them up and put them in ! Hope they dont get used to being carried to bed every night Only had one problem so far and that is the superglug leaks so have called omelette and they are sending another . See what tomorrow brings , has anyone else had the problem of there girls not going to bed ?
poppy ben grace
Hi mine struggled with the ladder for a few nights but once they have slept in it you should find they will find their way back in. I have put a tree stump at the bottom of the ladder aswell! Give it a few days am sure things will get easier for them even my exbats manage the ladder now! karlotta
It's quite common for them to be a bit confused for a few nights. Putting a torch inside the house can work wonders... Even my Orps and Brahma can manage the cube ladder quite happily.
Purplemaniacs
Me exbatts took themselves to bed the first night, I was very surprised. They are in an eglu and not a cube though. I thought I would have to help them for the first couple of nights so took the extension off of the eglu run. I have a large upturned flower pot at the base of my cube ladder in the walk in run, something similar may help yours. Chrissie
suzannejoy
This morning I have found them all asleep inside the nest area ??? Anyway opened up and they all trotted on down with no probs Mrs Knitting has just gone up on her own to have a browse in there . Has anyone else got chickens that sleep in the nest area ? All three of mine were squashed in there .
Purplemaniacs
All 6 of mine try to sleep in the nest box of the cube at times one usually ends up on the devider I had three ex batts in the eglu nest box last night Chrissie
SteveC
One of our girls liked to sleep in the nest box of our Classic. I just opened up the egg hatch and gave her a gentle shove onto the roosting bars. She hardly seemed to notice she was being manhandled! Only took a couple of nights and she sleeps on the bars now! poppy ben grace
My exbats like the nest box! I just leave them to it and make sure i take the poo out in the morning otherwise the eggs are a bit mucky.
suzannejoy
Well I think they should have the hang of the ladder by now as all three laid an egg in the nest box today . I wonder if there sleep in the nest box tonight , Its been very hot here in Hastings so theyve spent alot of time in the shade accasionally coming out for some food and drink Oh what a life !
