I love them all for different reasons but lavender seems so sorry for herself she tugs at my heart strings! Today she is being totally ignored which is an improvement but she seems disinterested in everything. She wasn't even interested in corn this afternoon. I'm hoping she isn't ill and just feeling a bit sorry for herself. Blackberry is a beautiful colour actually and it shines green in the sunshine, like a bluebottle fly. Strawberry is pretty too and is the head bird out of those 3. I'm not looking forward to the intros to the older 3 but that can wait a few days. I'll probably be begging for advice again at that stage! also love the lavendar! u lucky gal! thank you, I know I am If I ever get any more chickens they are having a new - no more intros for me! fluffy chick Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share Posted April 23, 2011 Hey everyone So I've had the new girls for 2 weeks today. The new three have bonded and are getting on well. I doubted it could ever be possible as blackberry and strawberry seemed to be trying to kill lavender. Still all well now. Thanks for your help and support with that one. So I was thinking tonight is the night for putting them in to sleep in the eglu with my 2 banty silkies. (My other pekin is still broody and narky so will take her out for now and deal with intro with her another day) in fact she is soo narky she tried to take on my 2 big hybrids thru the eglu run yesterday she ended up standing up on the glug so she was (almost) at head height and kept jumping up at them until she fell in the water, this seemed to calm her down! So my plan ... take narky broody pekin out, put 3 new girls in with relatively sane silkies after dark (spray with anti peck spray first) leave eglu door open (run closed so should be safe) so they can come straight out in the morning have 2 glugs and 2 grubs filled tonight ready for when then wake hang broccoli and banana from the top of run get up early armed with water pistol. So much for birds being sleepy at night. They weren't, just happily playing with the treats and toys I left them! Just been back out and not quite so happy, a bit of charging and chasing from the silkies but they quickly get distracted. I haven't seen anything too bad yet so I'm a happy bunny today. fluffy chick Posted April 28, 2011 Author Share Posted April 28, 2011 Update, the 3 new pekins are settling in well with the 2 silkies which I'm pleased about. There is still a bit of friction but nothing to worry about. Bramble was starting to make me feel guilty for keeping her separate so I've put her in to bed with the other 5 tonight. I don't think she is broody anymore. She is pacing up and down (and crowing ) trying to get back into the others. If any of the chickens will cause problems it will be her. Still at least the silkies are ok with the new 3 now and I've hung lots of toys and treats like before so fingers crossed. Wish me luck for the morning! I am going to let her fr today for a few hours to give the others a break. Although she will be going back in with them tonight, if not this afternoon. The last 3 nights bramble has been put into the eglu with the others at night when they are all sleepy. Every morning I've had to remove her again as she has been badly bullying strawberry (one of the new ones) who is now pretty good at hanging upside down from the eglu run while bramble jumps up to pull her down. When ever I go near, strawberry desperately tries to get to me so I will save her I have just order an energiser for my fencing so I can leave bramble to fr while we are at work. So I guess we could stay like this for a while if needed although it's a bit of a pain. I guess I'm hoping if I keep putting her in to sleep with the others she'll gradually come to accept the new ones. I know there must eventually be a bit of fighting, I am just trying to minimize it. I have had my pekins a week now and they seem happy(let them out for a bit of fr time today). If i ever get tempted to buy some more will you promise to talk me out of it? Have you got the antipecking stuff or Ukadex would that stop her attacking Strawberry. How's little Lavender now, is she leading a peaceful life? The trouble is I can't supervise the whole time so end up taking her out incase it gets too bad and I'm not there. I am going to keep her separate (so she can still see) until the weekend then try again i think. Although I'm still letting her sleep with them. We now call lavender the secret ninja. As she is so small she runs under the others, nicks a load of treats (like half a banana ) and runs off again to eat it. The others all just look on with a confused expression She really is a funny little character. When bramble is in with them lavender gets a bit of grief but nothing like strawberry is getting.
