I currently have a classic eglu and am looking at addingg a cube. I am debating if I should just go ahead and buy the extended run or not. Has anyone bought a cube and regretted not getting the extended run right off the bat?

How hard is it to move with the run extension (can a 5 foot tall woman do it herself or will I need help?)

I ordered it the day after the cube arrived. I only ever moved it a few inches though

We bought the standard run, then bought the extension 2 days later! I don't think you would have any issued moving it

go with the extension. i know i would have regretted it if we didnt. we move ours every sundays to try and save the lawn....

As an owner of a cube train (5m long) I can only say yes! Mine is immovable, but the chooks only use it for sheltering in and hanging out on the perching tables, they have a large chunk of garden to free range in.

I wouldn't consider buying the cube without at least one extension. When the cube came out, we worked out the ground it covers and with the standard run, it only covers a tiny amount more than the classic eglu. I now have two extensions on mine.

Sorry to hijack your post Meghan, but this is the same question I am pondering at the moment!!

I was just wondering how easy it is to clean the Cube run (with our without an extension). What I mean is, is the run big enough for me to get inside it to sweep out the woodchip (obviously on hands and knees, I know it's not a WIR!)?

Because the run door is bigger than that on the eglu run, it's really easy to get inside and rake all the litter into sacks.

We now have a cube with 1 run extension and our 4 girls seem v happy, we did have 3 girls in the standard run and whilst there was enough space for them to scratch about, we also let them free range most days. I do prefer the extension though if the weather is miserable at least you know the hens aren't on top of each other.

As regards moving it, this is a 2 person job in our household, 1 to push the cube and another to hold up the skirting on the run entrance to stop it digging into the grass With the extension I can't see the run would be able to support itself enough to enable the cube to be moved.... Perhaps we are just inept Good luck with your decision.

I don't think it's intended to be moved once it has an extension on it; the stresses on the clips would be too much.

Oh cool, that sounds perfect, thanks!! I'm toying with a WIR too, but I think the cost of the Omlet one is just way, way, way too much, so I think a Cube run with at least one extension (maybe two ) is the way to go for me!

Be sure to fix some plastic lawn edging along the bottom of the run (I used cable ties) otherwise they will kick all the Aubiose out through the mesh.

I ordered the extra run with mine last August and I could move it however I wanted it in the same place as I only have a small garden, I then ordered an exra extention when they were on special just before Chrismas. As for getting in and out I can and do but it is a killer at times. I raked 1 1/2 rubble sacks of old wood chip etc at the weekend and added two large bags of wood chip. I will then just rake it around a bit and add the fallen leave in the Autum and give it another clear out next year. I add Stalason F and garden lime when I think of it. Definetly buy the extention I think the run is too small as it is. Mine also get some free range time but less in winter. If you look at my signature you will see the pluss the run train as we all seem to call it. Personaly I would now get the standard run and the WIR but I have spent enough for now. Oh yes I cover it with clear tarpex all winter and have now folded it back. This help to keep the run dry and warm.

To me, it sounds like just "go ahead and order the extended run" Also sounds like it is movable, but 2 people are better than one to move it. (I have no problem with that). Thanks for all the help you guys offered for my decision.

You don't have to be on hands and knees in it I used to rake it out stooped. Didn't bother an old fat 5ft7in bod. (make you appreciate WIR when you get it )

Are you sure you don't want to build a WIR? We are planning to add the Cube to our Go and get the regular run, but attach it to a WIR that we're building ourselves. I really want that height for easy cleaning, etc.

Thank you! I think your post has made my mind up for me, cube run with extension it is (WIR would be lovely, but for lots of reasons it's not practical, not to mention it being too expensive!!!)
