dan30088
Hi, im new on here, and new to chicks for that matter. There used to be over 200 hens and cockerels where I used to work, but this is the first time I have had anything to do with babies. Anyway I hatched 3 Buff Orpintons, 2 and half weeks ago. I then bought one choc orpinton banty girl and a double laced banevelder (unsure of the sex) They are about 2 days older than the buffs. Anyway, one of the buffs has a deffinate tail, one has a stumpy tail, and the third has no tail at all. The one with the biggest tail is the most developed in the feather department aswell. Does this have any indication to the sex of them? Also the Barnevelder, anyone got any idea about sexing? What can they go out side? I know it will be a good few weeks off yet, but they are in my bedroom, as its the only place the cats cant go. and They are in with a Pair of 5week old cream legbars aswell. so 7 chicks in a cage in a smallish room, it kind of stinks in there. So I am just wondering as I obviously want them out as soon as poss. Sorry to go on abit, but im just curious
scarlettohara
They could go in a warmish shed with a heat lamp. What bedding are you using - aubiose absorbs most smells but you need to skip them out every few days Can't help with sex - just expect them to all be boys and then you will be pleased if they are hens
Lewis
Could go out at about 8 weeks old. Will be a bit different with the older chicks in, so maybe keep those in for a while. A shed/garage is a good idea. Maybe start putting them outside during the day at around 6 weeks? Could post pictures for people to sex them
Space Chick
My gold silkie chicks were outside full time from 8 weeks old, but were going out in the day from 6 weeks I also had them in a bedroom but I used hemcore, and whilst they smelt a bit it wasn't too bad
Lindy Loo
I have 2 five week old Rhode Island Red chicks which I have been keeping inside at night but I have been putting them outside during the day. They are fine in their own eglu in a sheltered spot in the garden.
