I've been making do with a drop of fairy liquid until now but just wondered if I should be using something 'special' to clean the glug & grub, bowls etc

That's what I do but if you wanted there are things like poultryshield or agricultural cleaners you can buy. I wouldn't bother unless you have some illness

Same here, usually a quick scrub in the trug with some washing up liquid or if I'm feeling particularly lazy (and OH is away), I stick them in the dishwasher.

I rotate mine, I two sets of everything. I dishwasher them about once a month, once a week wash in a very dilute bottle cleaner like milton, and in between just wash out in clean water and a brush with a washing up brush.

I started to use the milton after I noticed a build up of algae in the water last summer - it only took a couple of days before the water turned green, since I started the milton no sign. So far this year (I know its early but its been very hot here in the south east) no sign. OH thinks I'm a bit over the top but I believe in good chicken husbandry = healthy chicken

Quick rinse each night, but the lug and grub are dishwasher proof so once a week they get a deep clean in the dishwasher

(and OH is away), I stick them in the dishwasher.

i use the antibacterial fairy - i swear by it. The cube and the feeding equipment get the fairy treatment. I worked at a wild bird sanctuary for over 10 years and i wouldnt be without it.

I put the grub and glug through the dishwasher fairly regularly. I always consider putting the roosting bars through to - but so far haven't given in to the temptation. However - all my seed and gravel trays are squeaky clean

I rinse mine first then put all the animal bowls/feeders in the dishwasher on the same wash.

 

If you really wanted to sterilise them, then you can use either Viratec-P which comes as a powder, or nettex sterilisng solution (liquid). Both smell like Milton when they are made up, so are probably very similar. No reason why you couldn't use Milton though.
