Chicken Kitty
Being new to all of this, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what size box would be needed to transport 3 bantams in?.......I have seen a cheap cat carrying box but it looks quite small, then again I have no idea how much room they will need!......Hopefully I won't always be this clueless! pips_pekins
Hi Chicken Kitty. I used cardboard boxes to transport my bantams. The boxes were free When I went to collect my first pair, I was told the box would be better than a cat box as the chickens would be calmer in the dark. I made some air holes, lined the boxes with newspaper and put aubiose in the bottom and they were fine during a 2 hour car journey. I would take a couple of boxes with you. It is difficult to give you an idea of size but I used the box that my 4-slice toaster arrived in for 2 small sized bantams You must be so excited. What bantams are you getting? Don't forget we will need pictures.
Redwing
Aim for at least a square foot of space each, a cat carrier wouldnt be big enough for three - they'd fit but would be likely to get too hot if they are so close together a roomy cardboard box would be ideal or two cat carriers Cut some slits for ventilation if using a box though! Chortle Chook
If you are worried about depth / size of box, or the correct number of air holes, you might be able to pick up a cardboard box of the right size from your vet. Our vet has a set of good sized pet packing boxes available in case people bring in cats without cat carrying cases. This is what I used when collecting my first three chooks (a whole year ago now ).
