Here we are - 1st time chicken keeper's baby bantams......

Recommended Posts

Meet the girlies:

Here they are in the box before I let them 'move in'

1st there's SPLASH - blue splash bearded silkie - approx 7 weeks. Already eating out of my hand and letting me pick her up. By far the biggest and has let me tickle her and pick her up (although not without objection!)

Then there's 'BUFFY' - buff rock - the smallest and approx 5 weeks. Also eating out of my hand

Then there's 'DOTTY' - gold lace wyandotte. She's eaten from my hand but is not as confident as the 1st 2

And, finally, there's the yet un-named, but very pretty, partridge araucana. She's had a couple of pecks from my hand but, like Dotty, is a bit timid at the mo

When they 1st moved in I didn't know whether or not they'd find the concession stand  but they did a lot of scratching/pecking

Then, after turning my back on them for 2 mins, they made their discovery

WELCOME GIRLS!

I think I'm going to enjoy chicken watching - so much better than the TV!!!

Cheers - I think we're safe with Ms Partridge..............her feathering is completely different to partridge males (her sibling was with her) - as they're much blacker

The silkie is a little harder and I've my fingers crossed. The white one I wanted suddenly decided to change into a boy  but, again, there was a darker blue in the pen with splash who's legs were far longer. Apparently there's a difference between leg length

This said, if it starts crowing in a few weeks................I'll sadly have to return it and either do without or go down the road of introductions to keep 4

many thanks - the cleaning out this morning took a lot longer than 5 mins  Mainly cos it's the 1st time and ESPECIALLY cos the Eglu is now on the floor rather than the table..................fingers crossed they'll learn to climb sooner rather than later!!!

Good job you're a long way away so I can't pop round for coffee. Your lovely girls are conveniently handbag sized! I'm sure Buffy could be snuck in, such a pretty girl, well done :):mrgreen: Lovely run too, your double ladder is pure genius  How do you stop it from doing the splits and falling flat?

You are doing great especially as they are so young.

I was really cruel with my wyandottes. In the morning I took the food away before I let them out then the only food they were offered was from my hand so they had no choice really  Meant I spent a lot of time on my knees but I know my place

LOL - If I kneel down my duff knees won't let me get up!! I've put a green chair in so I can sit and feed a little more comforatbly - although I'm still doubled up leaning over to feed them!!!

I finally managed to keep 3 occupied in my hand whilst stretching my other hand with a mealworm - SNATCH!!! Did this a couple of times and now all 4 are feeding out of my hand and allowing a little tickle!!

I'm really pleased they seem to have settled.....long may it last!!!

They do chirp a lot - I hope this is normal chatter !
