ali-s
I've arranged to have the tank emptied next week. This will be my first experience of this procedure. So, will it be a smelly operation? should I keep the windows closed, buy a can of air freshener , pray the wind is blowing away from the Cottage and maybe go out for a few hours afterwards? bluekarin
If it is anything like a portaloo being emptied, then I'd be inclined to be out and far away for the day
yvonne
It is a bit smelly, but shouldn't be too bad - I really wouldn't worry

Margalot
Our local septic tank company drives a tank which says: "You dump it We pump it" "No Jobbie too big" it make me laugh every time I see them go by
beach chick
my mum and dad had one when they lived in Ireland. they built their own house, and were advised to throw a sheep's carcass into it at the beginning to make sure it got 'active' quickly enough no idea if they did or not... but we had one in a rented cottage for a while and it wasnt a problem. Mum phoned last night to tell me her and Dad are coming on Sunday for a week. Now my Dad gags at the mention of the word poo, in fact any word to do with bodily functions . I think I will send them out for day on tank emptying day.
