LunaKiw1
I've posted a couple of times recently on the 'clinic' page re Ginger (age two and a half) who has been fluffed up, not eating much, doing yellowy, sometimes greenish loose poo. I'm wondering about peritonitis. Anyway, the last few days we've not turfed her out of sleeping in the next box and in the mornings there have been what look like mini lashes in there instead of ordinary poo. Sort of white/cream coloured chunks if that doesn't sound too gross. She's sometimes laid 'proper' lashes in the past but not like this ie instead of ordinary poo. What can we do? Gave her some Nutri Drops this morning to see if that might perk her up. She spends a lot of time just sitting down, fluffed up (but not penguin stance); however, at other times she has still acted in a perky chicken fashion like running for treats when offered to her sister, Pepper or scratching round in the garden when free-ranging. UPDATE: Fri 22nd: We took Ginger to our vet who fortunately turned out to have chickens himself. He diagnosed advanced egg peritonitis as we'd suspected. She was just basically passing her congealed intestines. We also took our other hen, Pepper, along too who had also started to not eat and had passed a few mini lashes. The vet examined her and felt that probably she was going the same way as Ginger but maybe 4-5 weeks behind her. He offered to try some antibiotics but in the end we decided that as Pepper would be bereft without her sister and traumatised if we tried to introduce newbies at same time as she was unwell, that maybe it was kinder to let them go together. so we left them sitting quietly side by side for the vet to put to sleep at the same time. They were our first and to date only chooks and they gave us such pleasure over the last two and a half years. RIP Ginger and Pepper. johnandkymberley
Are you just looking to perk her up? Maybe try some garlic, poultry tonic or ACV? Hopefully that might help, if not one of the clever moderators will be here soon

Plum
Sounds really ill. If it was me I'd get her to the vet. Hope she picks up.
Egluntyne
I agree, she needs to see a vet. She may have some sort of infection brewing.
sandyhas3chucks
see if you can find an avian vet, or a vet with some experience (have a look on here or post your location so someone can suggest) ASAP They can be very poorly with these lashes, if some is still inside her it will be rotting inside her and poisoning her, she will need to see a vet to examine her(ASAP) to see and prescribe her some antibiotics and probably some anti inflamitory. If she has a fluid build up they might drain some fluid too. I would then seriously consider speying her (depending on where you are in the country) (scotland seems best ) an Implant to stop her laying for 6/8 months or discuss the Delvosterone injection (not costly at all and last 6- 8 weeks. LunaKiw1
Thank you everyone for responding. I think we'll get a vet to check her. She's just regularly passing these mini lashes at night and runny poo in the day and not eating - although last night at tea time when we were out in the garden with her and Pepper she was more like her own self and pottering around and scratching in the soil with interest. But there's certainly something rotten in her insides Ithink.
Plum
How sad for you, what a terrible day but brave decision not to let them suffer.
