HarrisonFamily
I am the calmest person I know.....I look after 17 children as a childminder.....I have never lost my temper.... Yesterday....I had a quote from a local company for gutters and all those other bits about £1500...Today I had a qute from...Zenith Staybrite ....after an hour of this is our finance, how great is our company...you could be a show home and get a great discount he came up with a quote of £5600....I laughed and told him to leave he refused saying he would have to talk to his manager...he started talking about discounts etc...I said leave or I call the police...he got manager on the phone...I told him what I thought of his price and that I did not want to listen to his discounts...He immediately offered me the work for £1000...I got a little angry saying what I thought of companies who could not offer a good deal in the first place...his salesman atually apologised and said it was company policy to sell like this.... So please watch out I can see how people sign up just to get rid of these salesmen....not sure who I could complain too but i got angry today and it felt treally good !!!! So if they knock on your door please do not even talk to them and if you actually work for them I would love to hear your input ....(promise I'll stay calm)
jess1merlin
Companies like that make my blood boil. I wonder how many elderly people actually fall victim to their salesmen.
Snowy
I've fallen foul of them in the past, they don't get in the door now! Very frustrating when you actually do want your gutters replacing though, trying to get a straightforward quote is a nightmare! No you cannot come in, just give me a quote and go away! snowberry
I'd put in a complaint to Trading Standards. How many vunerable people have been taken in by this company I wonder?

chuckmum6
I'd put in a complaint to Trading Standards. How many vunerable people have been taken in by this company I wonder? I agree, go to Trading Standards, chances are they have heard of them, if not they need to! That kind of selling is outrageous, especially him refusing to leave, how dare he!!!!!!!!!! Henchanted
I have always considered myself quite assertive and politely letting the doorstep seller do the first part of the spiel and then very uncompromisingly no thanks, no, no I don't (..want to save 3 hundred pounds a year...buying something I did not want...), no (I am not so rich I can afford to throw money away..you cheeky monkey I just don't want to buy your product/service), sorry I've got something on the stove. Bye.....no (I don't want to give you my contact details so you can send me junk mail.....is that the phone ringing....bye...no thanks I don't want your leaflet.....doorslam. It is very hard to get rid of persistant sellers and they do get my goat when they turn up unexpectedly when you are in the middle of something or one of your kids answers the door and so you can't even do the pretending we are out knowing we can be heard on the doorstep routine.... I do feel sorry for the poor so-and-sos having to do such a job to make a living but I feel more sorry for the poor customers who a) have to waste time fending them off and b) those unable to and ending up paying for something they didn't want....... GGGRRRR Our street is a designated "No cold calling Zone". Signs up every where, then the other day I noticed this chap bending peoples easr on their doorstep, he spent quite a while with some of them. Later that day, while I was in the back garden he came to our door and my YD opened the door to him so I had to see what he wanted. He was from British Gas and we the exchange, ( went much like the one above...) till finally, doorslam! I realised that I should have just pointed to the sign on our door 'Np cold calling Zone' and not engaged in any conversation with him other that suggesting the speed with which he should leave our property. I was so cross that I reported my concerns on the police website about this guy who could have been a distraction burglar for all I knew. The police got back to me saying they checked him out and that he was genuine but failed to say whether British Gas got a rap on the knuckles for doorstep calling in a No cold calling Zone. I decided to do some research online to find what this "No cold calling zone" actually means and found myself on the Neighbourhood Watch website.....and then I saw that the Neighbourhood Watch official sponsor is.... . . . . . British Gas.....unbelievable... Edited July 27, 2011 by Guest
cavysqueak
We had a Zenith (windows) salesman come - after an appointment time arranged from a cold call at our door. They stayed for 3 hours & even managed to smash a demonstration window in our house! I almost lost my temper - maybe that's why he left?!?!?! Needless to say we went with a local company instead! Horrible people. Leave us alone when we say 'no'!
whoopsie
Don't bother with Crystal either - we had our first quote from them (which was fine and they were very nice), then they kept calling my OH's mobile for MONTHS even after we'd had the work done by someone else!!!! Seagazer
I love the ones that come to the door and say 'don't worry I'm not selling anything' and then proceed to try to sell me something. I've also had lots of people asking whether I've had my home improvement grant - I always say yes. I've no idea what it is but its the quickest way of getting rid of them. I went on the Thomas Sanderson website to order a brochure for shutters, well I think they phoned me virtually every single day to try to arrange an appointment. I used to ignore the phone when I recognised the number in the end because he just wouldn't take no for an answer. Next time I will put in a fake telephone number. Jennifer Jane
DH was trying to get an online price for something the other day and the company phoned him before he'd even left their site. And the other thing I hate is when somebody stops you to do a "shopping survey" which generates millions of sales calls (almost always when I'm in the middle of dinner) and another call to tell me I have won a holiday. So I do give a fake number now. I "won" a holiday when I knew for certain that I hadn't done any surveys and I told the caller so - he replied "Well it was probably a couple of years ago"
Yorkshire Pudding
OH fell for doing a Phone survey a year ago. Within 2 weeks I took unsolicited calls from SEVENTEEN different charities asking us to become regular donors. OH is not allowed to speak to anyone on the phone that he doesnt know in real life now . Tutti Frutti
The nerve of these companies!! Years ago, DH answered the phone and was bouncing around the room - apparently, he'd won a car Unfortunately, he'd had a few (world cup was on ) and I could hear the caller shouting "CARPET SHAMPOO!" Anyhoo, we'd just moved and the new house had minging carpets so he invited them round... HOURS later... yes we had a spotless patch in the middle of the lounge but then the sales pitch started, "Would you like to BUY one, it's £500, you could start a business, finance blah blah blah". He asked them to leave, pointing out our 11 year old Escort cost less. They packed up their cleaner and left us with filthy edges in our lounge We ended up fitting wooden floors for a lot less than £
