Cate in NZ
I quite like the surprise element - round the bend in the drive - confronted by bees and geese I thought you'd had enough problems with mad or not concentrating motorists driving along your road. Geese and turkeys parading around the front of your property might just cause a few more of them to become distracted from the job of driving safely Might cause a few more unexpected visitors I love the idea of geese, but aren't they supposed to be noisy & vicious. Or is that unfair stereotyping
Egluntyne
My friend has 2 geese. They are great fun! ( Charles and Camilla! ) The only problem she is faced with is the copious quantities of poo. Chicken output doesn't even come close. And....not for the squeamish..........it is much more like dog dirt....with the same adhering qualities. Sorry....Hope you have already eaten! Lesley
Well, we were going to have guard geese - not sure now
The Dogmother
I think you've got enough poo to be getting on with Lesley BTW, how's the big green poo machine these days - did you fix it?
Lesley
The Big Green Poo Machine is OK - son and I left the drain rods permanently in the soakaway and I rod it occasionally. The soakaway may need to be dug out and replaced at some time though That area was where I was going to make a bee garden so I've decided to cover it in black mulch sheet and gravel and use plants in pots. The small wall around the machine is already planted with lavender and thyme plants.
ubereglu
Are you sure you want to get geese Lesley? I saw when you had the numbers of birds down it was getting close to 40ish. Don't forget that you have to register with the EVIL DEFRA when you get to 50 otherwise.
The Dogmother
Don't worry Liz, as soon as she gets near to the 50 number, Lesley gets the pot out!
Lesley
Makes no difference - we registered 'voluntarily' I let it slip when I was on the phone to them about the smallholding number - and they kindly 'let' me register my "only a couple" of hens (we had 8 or so at the time)
ubereglu
I should have only suspected that. Do you reckon they'd come to check on whether you still only had a couple? I doubt it.
Lesley
I did tell them that we would be having more so it won't matter. It just means that if there are any problems such as Bird Flu, they know who has more than a couple of hens A lady from DEFRA did turn up on the doorstep last week and said she was here to see our pigs - I think they should do that to more people - and battery farms
Jaime
Is Lesley's signature causing the forum to be slow? It's all that adding up that the system has to do each time you make a post
Lesley
No! it's not me ......... it's all these Meez pictures Are you telling me that we can't have any more animals?
Guest
You don't honestly think that anyone on this forum is going to urge restraint when it comes to adding to your menagerie, Lesley - do you??!!
