abwsco
Following on from the saga we had at the end of May/beginning of June thought I'd do an update. DH saw the consultant on the 11th July and he decided that he wanted to get DH in urgently for the laser ablation for WPW so he goes in this Friday. It should have been Friday just gone but the specialist rang DH from his home on Wednesday night to cancel it as the letter didn't tell DH to stop his medication Panicking somewhat (although trying not to show it) as like all proceedures there are risks. Amongst them they have to stimulate the heart so it goes into palpitations, the extra pathway may be too near the normal one for them to do it and the possible need for a pacemaker. The last one was a bit of a shock as it had not been mentioned before Fingers crossed all wil be fine though Edited August 5, 2011 by Guest

bluekarin
Scary stuff, but I am sure all will go well. I'd be a bag of nerves if it was my hubby going in for something like that. I'm bad enough when my YD has her steroid injections under anasthetic Be thinking of you on Wednesday ((hugs))

Ain't Nobody Here
It does sound scary but they probably do it on a daily (or maybe weekly!) basis . Best of luck to him for the procedure and to you for coping while he's getting it .
sadietoo
A very worrying time for you, but like ANH says, I bet they routinely carry out these procedures. I'm sure you can't wait for Friday to be over, but it will be wonderful afterwards as your OH is going to be feeling so much better. Sending every good wish.xxxx
Lesley
I 'm sure it will all go well Anne, the extra week of waiting won't be helping your nerves though will it!

squiffs
Hiya, My bosses' mother in law had to have this procedure done recently - twice! and she is absolutely fine - she was chuffed because her tests required her to eat a whole bar of chocolate before the second set (something to do with seeing what the fats and sugars did to her heart, as she keeps having seizures in the middle of Asda). Good luck to you and your family - hope they doctors do their job well and put your minds at rest.
chickencam
Sending good luck and positive vibes for him. My dad had a stent put in about 7 years ago and it changed his life, he was back to hill climbing within a couple of months feeling better than he had for years. beach chick
everything crossed for you both and as ANH says, what is scary and extraordinary for us is just part of a day's work for them. xx
Daphne
After vast amounts of badgering by my Mum, my elderly uncle had an ablation a couple of years ago. He's had heart attacks for years now and always recovered, but 2 years ago he had a stroke and then an attack. He can't have stents or a heart op as he is too ill/old/frail. He went from hospital A to hospital B to have the op which was quick, and it really has given him a new lease of life. We were preparing for a possible funeral beforehand, and although he is still basically very ill with repeated heart attacks, in between times he is fine, enjoying nature and the seasons. I believe he wouldn't have had the quality of life without the ablation, and in fact I'm not sure he would still be here. Try not to worry too much, I think the odds are good on a full recovery and I very much hope your husband makes as good a recovery as my uncle. abwsco
Thanks Ann Not long back from leaving DH there. I needed my brekkie-lol It's all very relaxed though and I could have stayed until he'd been done (or not) if I wanted to. Specialist came to see us and he's said that if it's too near the normal channel they will get DH back with two specialists looking at him to decide what to do. DH is going to ring me when he's back on the ward.
beach chick
difficult waiting I'm sure, maybe some chicken-watching if you are not too far from the phone? hope it all goes well and you get your phonecall with happy news soon. xx
abwsco
They couldn't do it so as far as I know now the plan is for him to go back again with the two specialists deciding what to do. He should be home tonight though and will know more by his discharge time.

abwsco
Thanks ANH, Lesley and BC. Got DH home and the upshot now is that they will not try to do the ablation again and to just continue with the meds and check ups. The specialist has now decided that DH at 46 is too young to have it done as there is a high risk that they would end up having to put a pacemaker in if they did the ablation. He's also still under strict instructions that he must call 999 if he has any episodes.

beach chick
oh dear, my initial response would be "DO something!!!" but I guess if that's what they think they probably know best. how is he feeling?

abwsco
Thanks, Egluntyne, BC and Freddie. He's slightly hacked off but I think that's more now as he knows he could be facing needing a pacemaker later on in life. Anyway, he's not going to worry about that until it happens.
