Grumpy old woman moment

Recommended Posts

I'm not being funny but I HATE it when people recline the seats on an aeroplane, as if the legroom wasn't cramped enough.

I have one of those gizmos that prevent the seat in front being pushed back. BIG GRIN

I've never been found out...EVEN BIGGER GRIN

OK, so 'fess up... what is it?

..... My grandson's sports day has prizes for all so that the children do not have to cope with not winning.

Heaven's sake...shouldn't all this be a rehearsal for real life. Shouldn't children be taught to cope with losing as well as winning?

When I was looking at local primary schools for Rosie, one in particular made a great fuss about not having a sports day, nor encouraging individual excellence. I'm not ashamed to say that I walked straight out of there. I wanted my child to be prepared for real life.

On the way back from Corfu one year, the woman in front reclined her seat at the start of the flight and refused when I asked to move it so that I could eat my meal. I had to get the attendant to ask her to sit up in the end, which the woman did grudgingly. :x

At the club pool meeting the other night, my friend and I noticed one little boy bouncing a water polo ball on the floor, which is deeply frowned upon by every one in the club. They have a special sort of surface for grip in the water. My friend asked the child (about 7) to very nicely stop doing this as it was a special boy. He pulled a face and turned away and started bouncing it on the gravel. His father came out and said, is there a problem? I told him what had happened and expected him to take the ball off his son as he knew what it was (he's a club member). Oh no! He said to me, well it looks pretty old and then promptly put it on the floor and started kicking it with his son. I think we'd just been told off!! If that had been my son I would have explained about it and said that we'd bring a normal ball next time.

I think the nicest thing to ever be told by other people is that your children are a delight to be around. :D

When we came back from a holiday many years ago, my DS was about three. We were travelling on a charter flight, and amongst other things like puzzle books etc i'd taken colouring books to keep the children happy (it was about three hours long and the maximum I would have expected my kids to cope with at that age). About half way through the flight, there had been not a squeak or complaint out of them, and so I was somewhat gobsmacked when the woman in front turned round to complain that my son was crayonning too hard on his table, and making her seat move about  We sorted the problem, I swapped places with him. About that time I was 5' 11" tall, (I'm shrinking) and have a 36" inside leg measurement. She had to put up with the rest of the flight with my knees pressed into her back rest

Seriously though, my children were taught how to behave in public, and could be relied on not to make a nuisance of themselves in restaurants/cinemas/ theatres etc. It seems like some parents just don't have the stamina to pursue good manners....or sadly from the way some adults behave, I'm beginning to believe they don't have any themselves to pass on.... :(

Too true :(

On a plane a few years ago I had a child behind who kept kicking his foot through the gap between the back and seat cushions, I asked his Mum to stop him and she half-heartedly told him off. He continued to kick so eventually I slipped my hand behind my back and caught hold of his foot.....and squeezed it hard....... I held on to his foot for a good 20 mins, still squeezing, before I let go.....he stopped kicking  I had cramp in my hand but it was sooooo worth it :D

We've stopped going to the RST in town as the level of behaviour has deteriorated so much over the years - the performances are attended by so many school groups and American/Japanese tourists who feel they should 'do Stratford' but have no real interest or understanding and so talk and eat sweets the whole time. It's an expensive outing even if we have resident offers when you can't relax and hear what is being said onstage.

Quite agree - I only reclined to give me more leg room 5ft 10 and it was after eating and I said nowt about her nearly yanking the head of seat back. My table kept falling down for some reason ' frankly planes bring out the worst in some folk and dont get me started on sun bed reservation or I might explode. Funny article in Mail today on flying '- absolute hoot.
