It happened again...

Morehendisease....you know what its like...you see the ad...you only go along for a look and before you know it you've chosen more hens and paid the money and you leave box in arms....

:oops::oops:

I am now the proud owner of Honey and Tufty - both Cream Leg Bar x Light Sussex hens - 20w old - Tufty has just come into lay whilst Honey still looks immature. They have today been doused in anti-pecking spray as my original 6 arent being very nice to them.

We also collect our new puppy in 10days time - she is to be called Eva...and is a Hungarian Wire Vizsla (she's only 5w in the pic so a bit young for the wirey bits to be coming through yet)

The tv cameras come out tomorrow (TORRENTIAL rain forecast all day :roll: ) to film the making of a new garden....so its all go! :lol:

I look forward to catching up with all the news soon.

They've been segragated since they arrived on Saturday - last night i removed the gates around the hutch they were using and they now have access to the whole WIR and the hens garden - they stay in the WIR most of the time and jump onto their hutch when approached by the other hens - there is a bit of chasing and squawking going on, but no bloodshed - the two new ones are pretty scaredy and the more they run the more the bullies want to chase them. Its Olive (was bottom hen til these 2 arrived) who is the worst offender - i keep an eye/ear on what's going on and Olive has had a bit of a dousing with cold water for just being downright mean earlier on. As all the others have settled, i'm sure in time these ones will too...they slept in the coop with the other 6 last night - i put them in once it was dark - the door is left open so they can get up whenever they want.

They are lovely. These chicken adverts have a lot to be responsible for, I have got my several off my girls this way. The last was when I went for one pekin chick, came back with two then went back for a third one a few days later. :)

@ Cheaky Chook - that's what's missing..the partridge... :lol::lol::lol:

Can i have some thoughts on this..tonight one of the RIRs was being really bullying to the two new ones..for no reason trying to beat them up etc...we waving the brush and a subsequent squirt with water stopped it for a while..i just went out to check on them and instead of voluntarily going into their own hutch, the two new girls are in the main coop, side to side with all the others. We didnt have this level of bullying the previous times..should i just keep a close eye that it doesnt escalate or should i separate out the two new ones again? I hate to see them being battered like that. :(

I keep my new ones separate for 2 weeks (so they can see each other) before allowing them to free range togther for a couple of hrs only. THen I put them in togther at night. Sometimes you might have to take a step backwards. I have had one set of awful intros and recently one where it was easy.

Lovely pics :D
