My daughters are both going again this year - Reading is only a 20 min drive away from us.

My youngest has gone to get her wristband this morning, & just called to say that it is an absolute quagmire down there

Luckily mine don't camp,although that does mean I have to collect them each night (bin bag already in boot for the wellies!)

 

I need to go into town this morning too,so I am hoping the traffic isn't too vile

I love the line up this year & am quite jealous of them going to see such amazing bands as Pulp,Elbow,Muse & MCR

 

Anyone else expecting muddy kids home on Monday?

Not going but our nephew is on security at Leeds and is backstage for Muse, Elbow etc

Never been - would have considered it a few years ago when the ticket prices weren't such a joke. I tend to go to european festivals, where you get a lot more for a lot less money. That being said, it's very near my OH's family's house (they live in Tilehurst) so if I'm ever there at the time it's on, I can hear it anyway

I have a friend who lives in Bramham. I can't tell you how much she looks forward every year to the festival.

Just dropped Nat off at his friends and they're off

Theres about 30 of them going from school and they think they'll all get tents together, we'll see!

 

Did offer to drop them off but the massive queue's both ways would have taken all day so they're getting the coach instead.

Hope the rain holds off so its not too muddy for them!

Too late - its deeply muddy already,although they have thrown a lot of bark chips down.

 

My youngest has just set off after getting her wristband this morning. She is staying overnight at a friends tonight,going with her tomorrow,then I am picking her up tomorrow night - deep joy

DS has a day ticket for Sunday, which I bought him as a well done for his AS retakes in January...he is really looking forward to it as he is a huge Interpol fan ...not sure he's thought about how and when he's getting home though

Just dropped mine off. It is chaos! It is a good lineup. If we were nearer so wouldn't have had to camp I would have gone myself as I have a spare ticket.

I am just back from picking mine up tonight....I was in the car park waiting for an hour and a half.

Said car park was muddy....goodness knows what it will be like on Sunday.

 

Daughters are muddy but both on highs after My Chemical Romances amazing set!

 

I have work tomorrow....not looking forward to that at all.

My ES and DD would have loved to been able to go but just couldn't afford to (although they did see MCR at Wembley back in February).

 

A couple of DDs friends are at Reading and one of them phoned her last night so that she could listen to MCR over the phone and we Sky+ them on BBC3.

What a night.......& it isn't over yet as I still have to collect my eldest when the headliners finish later.

 

My youngest passed out & was taken to a medical tent where she called me.

She was left unattended by staff for half an hour,then told a nurse would see her in ah hour or so

Naturally I hared it down there,she told them I was coming to collect her & they didn't even escort or drive her in one of their buggies to the main gate...she had to walk it which took her 20minutes.

Not impressed!

 

She is home now & fine,although a little shaken as she really doesn't know what happened.

One minute she was fine,the next she was coming around.

She has eaten,kept hydrated,hasn't touched alcohol or done anything else stupid.

I can only think that it was the culmination of 3 whole days full on activity - she left at 8.30 each morning to go there & came home at 2am ish.

I reckon she is partied out

Well, ED and I watched MCR last night and they were Awesome! Well, right up until they did their encore I thought, oh, it's just like the other sets. But the encore was fantastic and the fact they all lined up and bowed I saw a bit of Beadyeye (do not like) and someone else but I can't think who it was now. Today I caught the end of the Interpol set which I really wanted to see, but judging by the last song, I don't think I missed much. Then I watched Elbow. The opener I thought was very dull, but then I don't know, it all just perked up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a bit worried I'd miss the end as I wanted to watch Page 8 on BBC1, but luckily the set ended as the programme started.

I need to do some catching up as I missed Pulp and Muse who are on now I believe, but I have to be up early tomorrow (carbooting with my mum and sisters) so am up just past the crack of dawn *yawn* and if I started watching them, it would end up being a late night.

Eldesy daughter just called to say Muse were amazing.

She is easy to spot in the crown in her Pikachu hat - seen her a couple of times today,which is very surreal

I hope she is OK now. I can't believe they left her to walk to the gate on her own. Really very surprised at how blase they were. How are you feeling? After what had happened to have to go back again, poor you.

 

We went to collect DS who finally emerged, like a zombie, just after midnight, clutching half a tent, minus his trainers, (he was wearing wellies and left the trainers behind as they were caked in mud as was the rest of him). We then didn't manage to get out of Reading for a further hour. Finally made it into bed around 3am! Almost eight hours spent in a car, travelling there, waiting there, coming home. Four hours sleep as after the dog's fifth chorus of 'why am I waiting' I finally managed to move! The chickens were really good though and didn't make a sound until they heard the dog was out in the garden. Tried to go back to sleep but next door decided to mow their lawn at 8.55 .

 

Worth it though as he absolutely loved it

She is fine,but has now gone back this morning to meet up with someone who has her ipod (don't even get me started on why the heck she had her ipod at a Festival in the first place )

 

I was home,tucked up in bed & sipping a nice spiced rum by 1.15am....a distinct improvement on last years 3am.

 

Both girls had a fantastic time,so it was worth it. I however am rather zombie like after 3 late ones in a row

 

We shall have to meet up next year in the pick up point car park & while away the hours with some chicken chat!

Glad to hear that she is fine today. 1.15 is definitely better but as you say, you have done it 3 nights on the trot. Enjoy your day, hope you are not working. Spiced rum sounds good. Must look out for that .

DS was there from Thursday as he and a load of his mates were camping. I got tickets too and was there for the three days but, needless to say, I was tucked up in my bed rather than in the chaos that was the campsites. We are normally about half an hour away so it's not too bad. My son said to me that I had the right idea - I don't think that he will be keen on camping again - especially as someone (and they think they know who!) used their tent as a toilet!

 

The bands that I saw were excellent. I did miss Pulp and The Strokes on Saturday as DS had picked up a sickness bug and needed to get home . I was not surprised about the bug. The "facilities" were pretty dire and, as one comedian said, the catering staff use the same facilities!

 

The atmosphere was pretty good and there were a few people raising the average age - we all gave each other sheepish grins as we passed.

 

Sarah - I took your advice about Tim Minchin and managed to get a decent position to see him. I missed out on Ed Sheeran as I had taken a trek to the nearest pub to use the loo there!

 

Getting home last night was not too bad. A friend of mine lives at Caversham Heights so I parked near there and managed to head away from all the queues - it took about 50 minutes to get home but that was pretty good!

 

I was pleased that none of my son's friends stayed last night as we could hear the Police sirens as we walked away!

 

Sarah - I hope that your daughter is feeling better now. I think that it would have been a combination of factors but I would have hoped that they would have taken a little more care of her! My daughter was at V the previous weekend and she said that there were hundreds of helpers around to assist if anyone was ill. There didn't seem to be that many at Reading that I could see.
