dixie chick
Never a bad time to get chickens!! You may find less choice at this time of year, and if you get young pure breeds you may not get any eggs until next spring.... but if you cant wait - and you can get some - go for it! fluffy chick
Now is a good time as the weather is not too bad so you can spend time with them. I got news ones in Nov which was daft, no eggs for months and too cold to be with them much. But I still wanted more after a long cold winter of mucking out, breaking ice etc so it was a good test. By my reckoning you must get through about a sack a day
chestnutmare
I got my hybrids in January, they weren't difficult to get hold of being hybrids, I got an egg the following day from Snowy and the other two were not long to follow. The way I see it it'd have been cold weather at the place I bought them or at my place.

Redwing
I've had a few from them and they ahve all been very healthy but they were pure breeds not Hybrids My multi prize winning cockerel Tarzan came from Thornes Thornes have cut down on the pure breeds to concentrate on hybrids but when I last visited everything was tidy and clean but go and take a look, its a garden centre too so you can have a good look around without feeling obliged to buy
