Ah, sorry - wasn't trying to be smart, I just wondered if I was missing a different method!

 

I never think of using the processor to cream, I would use my little cheapie hand-mixer for that, but that's also because the processor bowl isn't that big, and it's more awkward to clean out.

 

Can I add, my food processor (Braun) will be 25 years old next week. It has lasted considerably longer than the marriage in honour of which it was presented!

Our Kenwood does all of our mixing, beating, whisking everything really!!! I love it!

We bought a Kenwood Major which is the larger of their range for £199 about 3 years ago and it is fab, I felt that the smaller one would be too small for bread dough, they are tiny in comparison to the Major. We bought it from a Kenwood agent locally, have a look to see if you have one nearby because they also do most of the repairs on site.

 

I was tempted by the beautiful colours of the Kitchen Aid mixers but went for the longevity and cheaper price of the Kenwood.

I have an ancient Kenwood Chef which I bought off eBay for £25 about 8 years ago to replace my Chef that I burnt the motor out on by not engaging the whisk firmly and then leaving it to whisk while I went to measure out more ingredients...a lesson there for me. Anyway, when used properly the old Kenwood Chef appears almost indestructible. However, I am not sure how well the new ones perform. A friend of mine has the small version of the Chef, which died after only a couple of years and seems quite poorly made in comparison. My recommendation is to get the proper Kenwood Chef, perhaps on eBay if you can't afford the horrendous prices of the new ones.

 

I also have a Magimix Grande Cuisine food processor which I use much less often than the Kenwood. It too has been very reliable. I bought it about 30 years ago and apart from some small cracks in the handle through not positioning in the dishwasher carefully enough, looks good to carry on a lot longer *crosses fingers*. Again, though I think you get what you pay for because I bought the Magimix to replace a cheaper version that had a belt driven motor rather than direct drive (i.e., the motor sits behind the bowl and so it needs a belt to transfer the power from the motor to the blade, whereas the one I have now has the motor underneath the bowl and the motor drives the blade directly). The belt-driven version burnt out within a few years.

 

I think the Kitchen Aid ones look good too but I have no idea on their reliability.

Currys have some Kenwood Chef models on Special Offer. Don't know how special the offers are though.

Our local Red Cross charity shop that sells tested electricals and furniture, had a 1950's Kenwood on Saturday, they sold it whilst we were in there for £48 it was quite battered around and the K beater was much smaller than on modern machines, it was really cute.

I have just ordered from currys on line....a kenwood premier chef for £179...half price offer, with free delivery.

I have wanted one for ages and i have been saving my one and two pound coins....i had enough to buy this, should be here after the weekend.

Seen some on ebay but they don't sell very cheap on their either so decided to buy new.

My mum has had hers over 40 yrs and still going strong.

The mixer came and it comes with the 1.5 lt liquidiser which i hadn't expected also the flexi beater , only expected the whisk , k beater and dough hook (which are with it too ), i can feel a cake making day coming on ...

If you're thinking about a Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer, we were in Bath yesterday and there's a kitchen shop called Kitchens http://www.kitchenscookshop.co.uk/ which is having a sale of Kitchen Aid mixers until Saturday. There are branches in Bristol and Cardiff. They've got 10% off so we got one of the "cheapest" - a cream one - which was reduced from £399 to £359.10. They had loads in stock and some are more expensive because they price them according to the colour. There's more than one colour at each price.

 

Of course, having paid that much for a gadget we'll not be using it for ages as we'll only be able to afford beans on toast for the foreseeable future.

Thanks, but it's not something anyone can afford 'immediately' which is why I'm getting gift vouchers from numerous people for xmas to put towards one. Selfridges have a nice selection!

I'm pondering on getting one of these for my Christmas pressie. Our ancient Kenwood Chef had more or less packed up. It was a wedding present, and unfortunately my beloved Magimix is also on its last legs after 10 or so years. I don't think I can be bothered to pay for repairs.

 

I'm fancying this particular model as the food processor is included and it seems a good price. Anyone any experience of this model and its food processor?

I don't have any feedback on that model, but if you decide to part from the old Kenwood, then do try ebaying it as they're worth a bit for parts or for being fixed.

 

Mine is 40 years old, I get it serviced every now and then and it still goes well.
