squiffs
My mum and nana are going to buy me a stand mixer for christmas this year (it's the only thing I really really really want but couldn't possibly afford). I'm in love with the look and range of colours of the KitchenAid stand mixer, has anyone got one? How does it compare to say, Breville, or Kenwood (or 'Ready Steady Cook' - that's an argos special! ) ? I would obviously prefer the best performing one, but I would love a pretty colour, too! Any suggestions on where to get the best bargains would be good too - as £350 is a liiiiiiiiittle too much over budget
kinsk
I love the kitchenaid ones too. They sometime have some on offer here http://www.hartsofstur.com but obviously you will be restricted with colour. Have heard good things about kenwood, but obviously they don't have the look. How lucky are you! I've been hinting for years that I'd like one but to no avail. If you are near a john lewis they have both the kitchenaid and Kenwood so you could go and see in real life which you think you'd prefer, the staff are usually pretty good and knoweledgable too. squiffs
there's 3 suppliers of kitchenaid in brighton, including john lewis and debenhams - I wonder if they'll put them on offer closer to christmas time!?
kinsk
I would have thought if anything they'd hold the prices, last Christmas I know JL sold out of the cherry red one, my friends husband really struggled to get her one.
squiffs
I would like a raspberry or cobalt one - or maybe green I'm searching amazon and ebay like a woman possessed for bargains! I did spot a nicely coloured kenwood one on the John Lewis website though, called 'firecracker', and stripey patterns it's a bit better than 'white' or 'chrome' but still pushing £

Chickendoodle
Check out Steamer Trading who have a few shops in Sussex. I bought my Kitchenaid mixer in there on offer a couple of years ago. Some of the colours get discontinued and they can be as much as £100 cheaper - you have to be quick to spot the offer though as they sell out really quickly

Patricia W
I love my Kitchenaid and wouldn't be without it now. I think I got mine from Harts of Stow in the Wold which was the best buy at the time.

I've heard nothing but good things about them and I'm so so envious of everyone who has one £377 is the cheapest I've found it so far! Saronne
There's a white kitchenaid 'Classic' mixer on special offer for £275 on Amazon...
squiffs
I may just ask everyone to give me John Lewis or Steamer Trading vouchers (probably the former, as they have the colour I like best) - and waiting til I've amassed enough to get the Artisan Kitchenaid ... Does no one else have an alternative brand of stand mixer?
majorbloodnock
Well, I have a Kenwood Chef that's still going strong after 20 years, and my mother's (which gave me the clue back then that it'd be a good buy) is still perfectly happy after about 30. Both are white and still looking just as white as when they were bought, so have clocked up a lot of unexciting years churning out good food. Yorkshire Pudding
I also have a Kenwood chef and it is brilliant - indestructible and works beautifully. I use it at least 3 times a week.
clucker1
I have a kenwood which was my Mum's and is 47 years old! I have just recently started using it and makes FABULOUS cakes. The mixing is EGGSELLENT!
squiffs
I've only seen stainless steel and titanium kenwood chefs - one of them is £995! They must be good...
Olly
If you search Kenwood Chef on Amazon there's a white one for £172.73.
sparkysmum
I know this might be a bit late but thought I'd add my tuppence worth for Kenwood Chef. I bought mine second hand 14 years ago and it's still perfect. Love it.

Willow
Does anyone have a stand mixer and a food processor ? I'm leaning towards going the food processor route but like the look of the stand mixers as well and since I have until Christmas to decide... I might get a cheapy food processor for liquidising things, but otherwise the mixers I'm looking at do have attachments that can grind, slice, shred, etc. The kitchenaid one has sausage stuffer and pasta making attachments

I'm leaning towards going the food processor route but like the look of the stand mixers as well and since I have until Christmas to decide... Yes. Me. I have a Kenwood Chef and a Kenwood Gourmet (not sure they make them any more). I use them for completely different reasons, and both are still functionally perfect after well over 20 years and 15 years respectively. That said, some items (blades, spatulas etc.) have worn out, but have been replaced at very reasonable cost courtesy of Kenwood's excellent after sales service and support. The Chef is far better at mixing (dough, cakes etc.) and whisking larger quantities of things (double cream, egg whites for meringues and so on). The processor is understandably better at blitzing stuff (smooth pates and soups, for instance) and whisking smaller quantities (one or two egg whites to incorporate into something you're mixing in the Chef, for instance), and it's excellent at creaming butter and sugar together (think apple crumble, so obviously indispensible). I'd go so far as to say that if one packed up now, I wouldn't bother trying to work out if I could make do; I'd wander straight out and get a replacement, and almost certainly from Kenwood at that. Olly
Interesting, Major B - I always rub the fat into the flour for crumble, and then stir the sugar in!
majorbloodnock
Interesting, Major B - I always rub the fat into the flour for crumble, and then stir the sugar in! Well, OK, I've been caught typing with brain only half engaged. You're right, of course; for a crumble I chuck the butter in the flour, not the sugar, blitz it with the food processor and then chuck the sugar in later on. However, I still stand by what I say - the food processor is excellent at creaming butter and sugar together too.
