Minty_76
Hello everyone I have been on this forum for months and as some of you are aware I got a second hand Eglu Classic in July. Its all ready and set up and I am going to make an appt later to go and see Susie Page at Pages Poultry tomorrow and get some bantams (if I don't chicken out! No pun intended!) Its something I have wanted for years so why do I feel like I'm going to sign my life away!? Silly really as I have 2 rabbits so I already have pet responsibilities and having chickens won't be too different. Sorry to bleat on but I know you lot will understand as I'm sure my friends are bored with my chicken talk!
poppy ben grace
Bless you! it will be fine i promise you. As you said you are already used to your rabbits so chickens will be no different really. This time next week you will wonder why you ever worried about it! We all have been there, i know when i first got my girls it was, oh my goodness what have i done? but i can honestly say i have never had one day of regret since getting them. Have great fun choosing them, we will be waiting for pics!
Tweety
Perfectly natural, I felt the same as soon as I had ordered my girls plus Cube from Omlet 4 years ago and didn't stop worrying until they had arrived and survived the first few days with me! I wouldn't be without them now, and everyone I know who keeps chickens feels the same. You will love them - have fun choosing.......
jackian
I totally agree with the other replies, I was just the same and nearly bottled out 3 months later , how ever did I ever have any doubts Thank goodness I only have a small garden which stops me from getting morehens disease
Brea
I was the same. I had my house a year before I finally got my hens! The day we brought them home and got them in the run I thought to myself, "Oh my god...what have I done...". I barely slept for the first few days - every single noise in the garden (and we have a lot of foxes here) I was awake and looking out the window, running up the garden shining the torch around - I was exhausted! Now they are part of our family (three cats, dog, hamster, fish!) - they just live in the garden. They are also very entertaining and lots of fun - I'm sure you will love yours when you get them! jennym
I have been on this forum for months Well then, you already know more than most people getting their first chooks, and certainly more than I did! Have fun and enjoy your hens - they'll be fine. I reckon anyone who comes on a forum like this and asks questions and looks up information will make a very good hen-keeper. Minty_76
Thanks for all your replies. I rung Susie and will hopefully be going to see what she has tomorrow. Hope also my 2 year old behaves himself! She said she had some Australorp bantams which I quite like the sound of. She doesn't have any Pekins which were my first choice but I am willing to see what else takes my fancy. I feel a bit sick! Best go and get the rabbit carrier out and put some fresh bedding in the Eglu.

daxigirl
You'll be fine. How very exciting for you to be choosing your ladies, have a lovely time. (Take as long as you like, I was a dreadful ditherer and mine changer when I chose mine. Don't worry too much they'll let you know if they don't like what your doing or getting wrong.
