Ain't Nobody Here
I have this plant in my garden which I have been told is a weed but it's quite pretty and I'm happy to keep it. I would like to know its name though so I know what it's likely to do and how to "care" for it. Can anybody identify it for me please ? Olly
I think it is purple loosestrife? I've got some in my garden, it's just the right height and I love it, weed or not!
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for that, but after Googling it, I'm not sure - mine doesn't have the tall flower spikes and the flower petals are a bit different (unless it's a different type of course!). It also doesn't have the ridged stem that is mentioned. Does yours have that?
Valkyrie
It's called Toadflax - Latin name is Linaria. Easy to spot - the flowers are like tiny snapdragons. This one is L purpurea - apparently originated in Italy and should be perennial. You can buy them as seeds - I have been growing a pink version. I think they are lovely and well worth a little spot in the garden. There are lots of the common type around here which is yellow growing in the hedgerows and banks. ohcarolina
The Linaria where I am self-seeds readily and needs little care. I think its really pretty.
beach chick
ooh, we've got that - tho your 2 pics look different? but self-seeds beautifully; not too invasive, so easy to remove if you dont want it; and no particular care required.
