Flaming June and sodden July

Sorry to everyone who is suffering from the monsoons.

I continue to by mystified (but extremely thankful) as to why our river (which always floods in winter) does not appear to have noticed the rain. We are not in the flattest part of Cambridgeshire but it wouldn't take much for the whole town to be under water. We have been getting the rain but obviously not as much as everyone else.

We are off up the Lake District next weekend. Will have to keep an eye on things when planning our route.

Hope everyone is OK today.

My poor hubby had to travel from Bristol to Birmingham yesterday up the M5!!

He left Bristol at 3pm yesterday and arrived home at 4am this morning and he was one of the luckier ones. Why are we so bad at dealing with poor weather in this country?

That was a long journey Moochoo :?

We saw so many people driving so slowly through the flooded parts so that even where it was possible to drive through, they ran the real risk of stalling. We always waited to ake sure they reached the other side and therefore didn't stall in front of us before we went through ourselves

We went into Stratford this morning to see the floods there - and to meet Clare, who managed the journey from Banbury. We still have cars abandoned around the island, and cars everywhere else we went. We had to go to the Countrywide store, north of Stratford, for animal feed and they'd been flooded. We had to stand in the doorway, pay for feed and then go to the warehouse which hadn't been flooded. They were also selling wellies - "shout out your size and they will be brought to you"!

Bad News

Mrs Clash City Rocker has returned home :( looking more "Slummy Mummy"

than her normal "Yummy Mummy" (luckily she doesn't read this message board). 25 hours to travel 9 (nine) miles.

Worcester seems to be cut off from the rest of the UK.

Just hope that "Bono" doesn't decide to start singing for us like he did for New Orleans!!!!!

Well Banbury was pretty badly flooded last night - Phil and i went down to look at the river at about 8pm - the river cherwell and the canal had joined forces, flooding most of that end of town, the sports centre is completely flooded and out of action and they were evacuating the old folks home opposite.

The Thames Water chappie who was on duty there all night said that the floods were expected to peak at 3am. The canal is slightly higher than the river, which runs parallel, and the water was just running in a torrent down into the river, taking everything with it - cars and barges alike! I had my crocs on and rolled up my jeans to wade through the water. We went back this afternoon to take some pictures - the water had gone down, but it was still bad.

This morning, it was very bad in Stratford - I managed to get there to meet Lesley and Carl at the market, although there were a few abandoned cars along the way and it was obvious that the roads had been impassable the night before. The police were contemplating closing the main bridge over the Avon into Stratford as they thought it was unstable.

Poor Martin is stranded in his house - it is raised above the level of the road, but the water is lapping at the door and his Mum has put a futon against it to stop the water coming in. is chickens are on top of the shed - the only dry place in his garden.

I took some photos today of Banbury and Stratford - you can see them here.

and bright here too :D

Hopefully it'll stay and warm up nicely

We've just been reminded that the Severn is going to burst it's banks - so the Environment Agency are getting ready for all hell to break loose again - the RNLI have brought lifeboats to Gloucester Fire Station. The water from Tewkesbury is expected to hit us later this morning.

I'm back on my knees again

A

xx

Been quite nice here again, went to boot sale this morning and was worried about lack of sun cream! I walked back too along a bridle path and was very red faced and sweaty when I got home. Yesterday was mostly nice too, odd bit of rain. Same Friday - was torrential rain for a couple of hours but later we sat outside a pub in the sun for a couple of hours :?

Soo sorry for everyone who is suffering in the floods. I feel terrible looking at it on the telly.

Mum is off to Wales this week for a holiday - not sure how good an idea that is.

We've had a lovely weekend here (sorry for all you people that havent  )

Last night about 5pm, me, hubby, sister, BIL, and 2 nephews set off for the beach, we took BBQ, yummy food, bag of logs, wine, metal detector (for the kids), and football. It was fab  made huge roaring fire on the beach. Kids searched for firewood, hubby did some fishing and we spent hours there way past until the sun went down. :)

Today - sunny and warm all day. :)

Ah now I understand, you need the farm to look after all the retired Eglus.

Silly me, I thought it was for something different altogether :wink::D

All's fair in love and Ebay :lol:
