Thug swinging cat

Recommended Posts

I hope this horrible little thug gets similar punishment. I just copied the article because the CCTV is distasteful.

Mowgli, a two-year-old tom, narrowly escaped injury in the “sickening” attack as the unidentified man span him around more than 14 times next to railings and cars, coming within inches of smashing the cat’s head on the pavement.

Last night his owner, Michelle Buchanan, asked for the public’s help in naming the man responsible for the “appalling” cruelty.

“What happened is horrific. I just can’t believe that there is anyone out there who would want to do this,” she said. “This guy thinks he has got away with it but he must be stopped and held accountable.”

The attack at 8.30am on Oct 29 was witnessed by Miss Buchanan’s next-door neighbour, Lynne Jarvis, 62, who ran outside in her dressing gown and confronted the youth and three of his friends who were egging him on.

Mrs Jarvis said: “I heard a demonic laugh and a commotion and looked outside to see someone swinging something around. At first I thought it was a black cardigan but then I realised it was Mowgli.

“I put my boots and my dressing gown on and screamed and swore at them, shouting that they were cruel and evil so-and-so's.

“I think I shocked them because I’m not a pretty sight that early in the morning and they probably weren’t expecting a pensioner to use the sort of language I did.

“He dropped the cat and they all ran off down the street.”

The attack was captured on a CCTV camera outside a pub next to Miss Buchanan’s flat, and the footage was handed to the RSPCA by its landlord, Mark Reynolds.

The 17-second clip shows the youth, wearing black trousers and a beige top, spinning Mowgli around at least 14 times before going out of shot.

Miss Buchanan, a 43-year-old IT teacher, was at work and did not find out about the attack until she returned to her home in Ramsgate, Kent, in the afternoon.

She said: “There was no sign of Mowgli and I didn’t know if he was alive or dead. Everyone in the neighbourhood was looking for him and eventually he came back home at about 9pm.

“He hasn’t gone out of the flat since, he just sits on my bed or on the sofa. He isn’t physically injured, but it’s obviously had a terrible effect on him.”

Caroline Doe, an RSPCA inspector, said: “This was a very violent, nasty attack on a cat. Anyone who witnessed this outside the pub must have been shocked and appalled as we were.

“We are hoping that someone will recognise this man and come forward so we can investigate this fully.”

Last year Mary Bale, a 45-year-old bank worker, had to be given police protection after she was filmed dumping a cat in a wheelie bin near her home in Coventry.

The spinster received death threats after the CCTV footage of her trapping Lola, a four-year-old tabby, in the bin, was posted on the internet.

She was fined £250 after pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and blamed her actions on “a split second of misjudgement”.

This is absolutely awful! I really cannot understand what would possess someone to even think about doing something so terrible!

I hope they find him.... and leave the police protection for those who actually deserve it- what a waste of money! People need to be accountable for their actions unless there is a VERY good reason; which is highly unlikely in such situations.

Have just read this:

An unidentified man allegedly caught on CCTV swinging a cat in the air by its tail by has handed himself into police, the RSPCA has said.

The 20-year-old man from Ramsgate voluntarily handed himself into Margate Police Station and is now helping with enquiries, according to a statement released by the RSPCA.

After the shocking footage was released, the suspect is believed to have gone into hiding.

I feel much better now!

What is wrong with people in the UK?? I'm sure you've all seen this from a year ago...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-11068063, the actions of some people just beggar belief!

I do wonder whether we do enough in the UK to prevent/deter cruelty to animals but then, compared to other countries the situation here doesn't seem so bad.
