just had to get my ex batt chook (first flock) put to sleep

Recommended Posts

Whole family is distraught and crying their eyes out..even my dad, who found them rather annoying the majority of the time. He's drowning on about whole cruel life is  never thought I'd see the day!

Poor chicken was very thin, had nothing left on her to fight off whatever she was suffering from. Was violently throwing up.

I'm rather annoyed the vet didn't put her to sleep on saturday when she knew she wouldn't survive it, but at least we know we did everything we could to help her.

Dolly was our favourite chicken (have had her for only under two years), absolutely adored her cuddles. The household just won't be the same.

I've shown the body to the other chickens to let them know what has happened, if we didn't, they'd never stop frantically looking for her - it would probably end up killing them.

The vet has given us permission to bury her in the garden.

What a sad day

RIP Dollykins xxx

I'm very sorry to hear your news; I read your other thread and thought it was probably her time :( At least you know you gave her the best and now she is at peace and not struggling anymore. Maybe you could plant something special to remind you of her in happier times? RIP Dolly.

thank you so much for all your support.

you guys are making it so much easier...i'm just worried for when the next tragedy strikes and we're only left with one chicken. especially since the two that are left are like tweedle dum and tweedle dee (highly annoying), they're inseparable. i don't know how we're going to manage it *sigh*

i still remember the day when we first got them..my mum and i had the same though running through our heads: ''what have we got ourselves into?''

who would have thought we'd grow so attached to chickens!

thanks again
