The Dogmother
Money and making it quickly is what it's about ANH I hope that the police and RSPCA get involved as there's obviously some dog trafficking going on.

The Dogmother
Sounds like it - I don't know the people at all; it has just been posted on the lurcher forum.

Chortle Chook
That is just so depressing and upsetting If anyone of you has a hairy lurcher for goodness sake keep them close to you at all times. They really are at a premium
The Dogmother
Cyrus is short haired but I think he'd be safe - they'd take one look at him and think 'ginger eejit ' and leave him be.
chick wiggle
Dont take any chances DM, please be careful! they may not be fussy, besides your dogs are gorgeous!
The Dogmother
Thanks Sandie, I am very careful with my two and usually let them off-lead away from other folks. Cyrus wears a falconry bell on his collar when he's out - he tends to sling a deaf ear when he's rabbiting and it helps to know where he is. chick wiggle
selective hearing eh? yep, George has that too We think hes deaf one minute, then the next, the slightest russle of a crisp or biscuit packet and hes there like a shot! Sam
Thats so awful another TWO dogs have been taken Only just caught up with this, don't often go into this section of the forum, but so relieved Ozzie has been found! Poor boy:( I like these little internet communities
Chortle Chook
Pedigree dogs are always game for dog knappers but people often forget that non pedigrees who have 'the cute effect' whether hairy lurchers (like one of your dogs - Dogmother) or wiry Jack Russells are equally at risk. It really does help, however, if they are neutered. It helps even more if they look a little old, both things radically reducing their re-sale value. So if you have a young, cute looking dog, you do need to be so very careful and, by the way, never ever put the dog's name on his tag - just your name and post code and mobile phone number. Those little tags that say the dog is microchipped are also good, especially the red ones that really show up
Chicken shack
Would it be possible to have a tracker implanted if it were affordable Reading this thread makes me think this would be a good option if it was available. I would consider it of I had a dog.
The Dogmother
I don't know, you can certainly get tracker collars, they are expensive and can obviously be removed. I suspect that anything affordable would be too big to be implanted TBH
Lavenders_Blue
Great advice Cheaky Chook. Tango has been microchipped and wears her (unfortunately not red) microchip tag on her collar, along with her ID tag which does not have her name on it. Tango has not been spayed yet (that's her treat for the new year ) but when she is, I will probably get a new tag with 'neutered' on it as it's not so immediately obvious with the girlies and anything that might deter a dog knapper can only be a good thing. So sad to hear about these two latest dogs who have been stolen
The Dogmother
You can get ready-engraved tags which say 'chipped and neutered'.
Lavenders_Blue
Thanks Dogmother, I'll look out for one of those then. Although with all those tags on her collar Tango will be jingling like a morris dancer
The Dogmother
I've seen them somewhere myself, probably online.
Chortle Chook
Yes they are online, but you need to search for 'tags' rather than 'dog tags' which brings up a load of military stuff
Lavenders_Blue
Have found these tags available here in hi-viz yellow which ought to be very noticeable. I'll get one for Tango when she is spayed. (Also love the 'Balls are for fetching' sticker ).
The Dogmother
(Also love the 'Balls are for fetching' sticker ). .... except they can't spell 'spay'
