Do chickens poop all around the garden/everywhere?

Recommended Posts

I Was just wondering if they did because i am wondering if its going to be easier or harder

And if they do poop all around the garden do you know the best/easiest way to clean it?

or do we have to even clean it, because i know they poop in the chicken house just wondering if only in the house?

Thank you for your Replies :D

Yup - chickens poop anywhere and everywhere! There'll be more in the Eglu because they stay in there overnight, especially when the nights are long.

Aubiose or hemcore in the run will help. On the grass I just leave it usually, on the patio I sweep it away when it's dry or hose it down. However, I don't have children ... it's harder work if you have youngsters who want to play on the lawn.

Apparently chickens do about 70% of their poos at night (or that is what I have read) and so you get a lot underneath their roosting bars.

However it is certainly the case that they do the other 30% of their poops wherever they feel like it . . . and in our garden that seems to be right next to the gate :roll: We wash / brush it off the main path once they have gone to bed, to start the next day with a clean slate, so to speak, but leave it where it lands when it is in the flower beds (we don't have any lawn, or children) and the fruit trees and roses seem to appreciate it greatly. We also have a turtle mat in the entrance to the kitchen to catch any poop that ends up on the bottom of shoes - especially those toffee ones :vom: .

Don't worry about asking questions, we allows started somewhere and welcome to the forum.

My girls free range so I go out a couple of times a day and pick it up with those disposable rubber gloves and a dog poo bag - otherwise my dogs would just eat it all!

LOOL :lol::lol:

Thank you lots xxx

Our girls only really get to truly free range when I am about, but they have their run an the "paddock" which is an owlet netted area that goes of their house. So we dont have loads around the rest of the garden.

If though we need to worry about it I have a chicken broom, it's a stiff bristled broom, like a yard brush that I use to sweep the poop of the paths and patios and I also use it on the poops on the lawn to spread it about. It is reaklly good for the garden, I noticed that they were even selling chicken poop compost in home base! In the flower beds and veg patches I just leave it.

Welcome to the forum , you will find it a great place for asking advice when needed.My girls poop where ever and when ever they like , :wink: But I don't find it a problem. I go around each evening with a old spatula ,scoop it up straight into an old plastic container then it goes into my compost bin...On veg patches it is fantastic for growing veg .
