Things I didn't do this Christmas

Recommended Posts

~ I didn't object that DH had to work AGAIN this Christmas (I can count the number of Christmas Days we have spent as a family over the years on one hand)

~ I didn't object to getting the meal on the table by 12.15 so he could enjoy it before heading off to work

~ I didn't feel guilty about not making handmade cards this year

~ I didn't mind being woken up by my 17yo acting like a 4yo at 04.30 Christmas morning

~ we didn't have pudding or cake this year (we have them; we didn't eat them!)

~ I didn't invite people over just because I felt I had to.

~ I didn't visit people because they expect me to

~ I didn't feel guilty about the hour I spent in the bath in the afternoon reading a book I'd been gifted :D

All in all, there was much I didn't do which meant I DID enjoy Christmas ;)

I am so pleased to find so many other people that have had relaxing Christmases without too much stress! If you read magazines before Christmas you'd think everyone was decorating the house from top to bottom and knitting their own Christmas wreaths ... I had all sorts of plans, but I am so glad that I let some of them go and just enjoyed the day instead.

I'm reluctant to admit it, but it was much less stressful spending it with friends, than with family!

I agree wholeheartedly with that Olly - friends win hands down. i ahve an aunt who thinks her ways of doing things are the Right way. One yr she was telling me how to make custard  I now keep her out of the kitchen and OH helps me. So like Cinammon I did not murder anyone (came close). I have to say prefer New Year - spent with friends.

Sleep - MIL with dementia was staying and she woke us up at least 9 times during the night and then forgot what she wanted to ask us! Taken a few days to catch up and we have to do the same for the bank holiday this coming weekend, oh joy :(

Stephen ate all the pudding as I don't like it, although I have had a few slices of cake.

Enjoy any of it :( It was terrible, totally awful. I am much happier now it is over and I have a whole year before it happens again.

Your posts are making me feel better! People at work think I am very sad....

Me and mum didn't wrap presents either. Just dipped into a big sack, most of them still in their amazon packaging.

Best thing was first vegetarian Christmas since I was a teenager. Mum went to so much effort; sadly I have a virus so little appetite but managed to eat the chestnut bake.

Few decorations at home, just cards up and my reindeer head wreath from the Christmas markets last year.

It was pretty much what we wanted - much less stressful!

im going to make the stollen and ice the christmas cake today.

I go to my parents xmas day, collecting my brother on the way which is just short of a 3 hour trip with the detour.

This year I suggested to mum that we have christmas dinner about 1-2 this year as in the past years its much later and people are stuffed. We had lunch about 2ish and then the christmas pud about 5pm. Then we had cheese and biscuits about 8pm while playing games.

Next year i want to be organised. I have still cards written out on the side waiting to be posted...

Oh and we ate our xmas pud last night from two years ago, i found in the cupboard while having a sort out :P
