Couperwife
we have has piperkit for more than 11 years and she is lovely but she has just started to wee in the corner of the living room and we dont know why we have just had a new nephew and "looked after" the dog for 2 seperate weeks, we wondered if this might have anything to do with it? we looked after new nephew yesterday and she has weed again. but it isnt only when we have dog/nephew visit. its also in the same spot we wondered this morning if it might be a marking territory thing, but we dont know what to do to stop her, or make her feel safe again. any clues anyone? she has a litter tray that she uses, and she can come and go as she pleases, and she has the full run of the house... sorry for the long post, cathy x
Space Chick
Poor piperkit There's not an underlying medical problem is there? May be worth getting her checked out Cathy. As for returning to the same spot, have you tried cleaning the spot with (I think its) bicarb and non biological washing powder as this will remove the scent and discourage her. Couperwife
ooh, good idea ive ued febreeze, but its not worked, will try the other stuff. i did wonder about a medical issue, i will pop her to the v.e.t next year - boy will she love me thanks Debs cathy x
Yorkshire Pudding
Could be she is just stressed, but well worth checking out as there are often underlying issues especially as she is quite an old lady. There is a wee/smell remover called Simple Solution (PAH and other pet shops stock it) which is enzyme based and is the only thing I have ever found that totally removes the urine rather than just masking it. Wonderful stuff.
Couperwife
I did wonder about her being stressed, she was not overjoyed about the baby thing - or the dog thing for that matter i will pop her in the vets and see what they say - I also WONT tell her about her being old...she spent yesterday bouncing about the room after a pingpong ball thanks about the suggestion YP, ill go to PAH too cathy x
Cooks
not laughing about th e prob Cathy but her bouncing around after a pingpong ball, I can so imagine her dong that. I hope you get to the bottom of it Hun xxx
Chucky Mama
It is worth ruling out a urinary infection and if everything is OK, clean using Simple Solution or something similar. Don't use anything that is strong smelling as it actually encourages cats to spray over it to cover the strong smell with their scent. I would also advise using either a Feliway or Pet Remedy Plug in diffuser in the room that she is spraying in (or you could spray the area with Feliway Spray after cleaning). It is amazing how little change to a cat's routine can cause stress and spraying
Olly
I know I've posted on another thread about this, but the Pet Rescue Remedy has absolutely transformed my evil-tempered, spitty-hissy rescue cat into something almost normal! She still growls at my other cat and bites visitors but her behaviour has really changed since I got the plug-in, it's been far more effective than Feliway in my opinion. Chucky Mama
Is that the Pet Remedy Plug Diffuser Olly?
Olly
Yes, that's the one - sorry, may have got the name wrong but it's this one (although don't buy from here, it's cheaper elsewhere!). I must order some refills for mine, it's a plug-in but you can also put drops from the bottle on to a thing and hang it in the carrying basket. I've been very impressed with it. Couperwife
oh, they sell them in Amazon thank you
clucker1
Try putting some tin foil down where she wees....apparently cats don't like peeing on that. Good luck! We had a cat who did that for some time....he was mentally a bit of a lost, poor little thing and had lost the plot.
Plum
I put the food bowl down in the area and it worked.
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that, wash the area with Simple or bio laundry liquid. I'd get her checked out as I had a cat which did that and it turned out to be a health issue.

Couperwife
well, she tried to "just go out for a quick wee and I promise ill come straight back in again..." twice she clawed me and my mum who came to the vet, then sat like a little angel whilst the vet looked at her the vet had a right good look at her and said that she couldn't feel anything untoward, but she would like to test a wee sample for her (how on earth will I get one of them ) they gave me some beads to put in her litter tray so I can easily get a sample from her she actually said that she thinks its just age (we have had her for about 12 years, and she was at least a year old when we got her) but she wanted to check with samples to make sure - but she did check that I had her insured before she started to push for tests and stuff so all in all, good vet thanks for all your positive thoughts cathy x
Olly
Well, glad to hear that there's no obvious problem, hopefully some of the tips recommended above will help to stop her from doing it, and the vet will find there's nothing wrong. Thanks for the update!
